No. 3 St. John’s Readies for BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament

Red Storm will compete in BIG EAST Quarterfinal at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night on FS2
UNCASVILLE, Conn. – The St. John's women's basketball team will prepare for the 2024 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament presented by JEEP at Mohegan Sun Arena.
After compiling an 11-7 record in conference play, a 17-13 mark overall and winning their final two games, the Johnnies clinched the No. 3 seed, their highest since the 2019-20 season.
The Red Storm will start its journey on Saturday night in the quarterfinal round at 9:30 p.m. Third-seeded St. John's will face the winner of sixth-seeded Georgetown and 11th-seeded Xavier and the national telecast will air on FS2 with John Fanta and Kim Adams on the call.

Unique Drake and Jillian Archer were honored on Thursday by the BIG EAST in its annual regular season awards. Drake, who ranks third in the conference in scoring at 18.0 points per game, was unanimously selected to the conference's first team. Archer was recognized as an honorable mention choice after averaging 11.2 points on 58.6 percent shooting and 7.9 rebounds per game.
St. John's enters the tournament on a two-game winning streak and earned the No. 3 seed after a pivotal road win at Marquette on Feb. 27, 56-50. The Johnnies were led by a 19-point point performance from Ber'Nyah Mayo and held off a late Golden Eagles' surge to earn their first win in Milwaukee in seven years.
The Red Storm rank third in the league in scoring defense and have allowed just 57.8 points per game. The squad has held 11 opponents to 50 points or less this season.
The top-3 finish in league competition marks the fourth such finish under Head Coach Joe Tartamella, who is in his 12th year at the helm. In 12 seasons, the program's all-time winningest coach has guided the squad to nine top-5 finishes in BIG EAST play, four NCAA Tournament appearances, seven postseason trips and a 2016 BIG EAST Tournament Championship.
The program is set to make its 38th appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament since its inception in 1983. The Red Storm has captured four conference titles in 1983, '84, '88 and 2016. The squad has made five championship games, 11 semifinals and Saturday will mark its 31st appearance in the quarterfinal round. The program holds an all-time BIG EAST Tournament record of 32-34.
