No. 75 St. John’s Readies for Doubleheader against Marquette and Fordham

The Red Storm has won five of its last six matches
QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 75 St. John's men's tennis team will play a pair of matches on Saturday, facing BIG EAST rival Marquette at 1 p.m. before taking on local foe Fordham at 4 p.m. Both matches will take place on the St. John's Outdoor Courts.
St. John's has won its last three matches and five of its previous six.
The Red Storm (15-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) is coming off a 4-2 victory over a talented NJIT squad on Wednesday at the USTA National Tennis Center. In doubles play, Adam Groves and Ryota Kaneda won their fifth straight duo as a pair to help the Johnnies claim the team doubles point.
Kaneda won his team-leading 14th match in singles play against the Highlanders and Francisco Bascon picked up his first victory of the season in the No. 2 singles position. Armando Sotelo clinched the match for the Johnnies, picking up a 6-2, 6-4 decision on the No. 5 court.
Former BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Carl Gustavsson has 11 wins in singles action this season and Danilo Raicevic has an impressive 10-1 singles record for St. John's.
The Red Storm and Golden Eagles will meet on Saturday for the 13th time. The Johnnies have won 10 of the previous 12 meetings and are a perfect 3-0 against Marquette at home. St. John's has won six in a row against the Eagles, including a 4-0 win on April 21, 2023, in the BIG EAST Tournament.
The Golden Eagles are 4-12 this season and 0-3 in conference play, coming off a tight 3-4 setback at home against Creighton on March 29. Marquette will be in Villanova, Pa., Friday afternoon to take on the wildcats before making the trip to Queens to face the Red Storm on Saturday.
St. John's has never lost to Fordham, emerging victorious in all seven of the previous meetings between the two schools. Last season, the Red Storm triumphed 6-1 over the Rams on April 16, 2023, in Queens.
Fordham enters Saturday's match 5-7 overall this season but has won its last four contests. Most recently, the Rams picked up a 7-0 sweep over Manhattanville College on March 27.
Following Saturday's twin-billing, the Red Storm will wrap up its regular season slate with a BIG EAST matchup with Georgetown on April 10 in Washington, D.C.
