No. 75 St. John’s Picks up Sweeps over Marquette, 7-0, and Fordham, 6-0

The Red Storm has won five matches in a row
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team swept a doubleheader over Marquette and Fordham on Saturday at the St. John's Outdoor Courts.
The Red Storm (17-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) blanked the Golden Eagles, 7-0, before taking down the Rams 6-0, for its fourth and fifth victories in a row.
In the afternoon's first match, the Johnnies picked up their seventh straight victory against Marquette. St. John's won two of three doubles matches to claim the team doubles point and swept all six contests in singles play to finish off the win.
Doubles action started with Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves picking up their sixth straight win as a pair on the No. 3 court over Ivan Vazquez and Teddy Wong, 6-1. The Red Storm clinched the team point on the No. 2 court when Martin Bugaj and Armando Sotelo earned a 7-5 decision over Jan Jauch and Jasper Schaadt.
In singles play, Ignacio Vinas picked up a two-set victory on the No. 4 court over Schaadt to give St. John's a 2-0 lead. Former BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week Carl Gustavsson made it 3-0 with his 12th singles win of the year, triumphing over Jauch on the No. 3 court.
Leonardo Mileikowsky locked up the win for the Johnnies on the No. 5 court with a convincing straight-set win over Nathan Balthazor, 6-2, 6-0. Francisco Bascon made it 5-0, defeating Tim Krstulovic 6-3, 6-3, and the lead was pushed to 6-0 when Bugaj earned a three-set victory over Blake Roegner on the No. 1 court, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Groves completed the sweep from the No. 6 position with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Vazquez.
Marquette falls to 4-12 on the season and 0-4 in BIG EAST play.
In the second half of the twin-billing, the Red Storm put on another dominant performance to shut out its rivals from the Bronx.
The Johnnies won the team doubles point and emerged victorious in five contests in singles play to finish off its second sweep of the afternoon.
Groves and Kaneda continued to produce, handling John Mascone and Stefan Stojanovic, 6-1 for their second win of the day and seventh straight victory. Bugaj and Sotelo's second victory of the day, a 6-2 victory over Nicholas Kanazirev and D. Virdee-Oakley, cliched the team point for the home squad.
Gustavsson trounced Nick Mueller on the No. 1 court, 6-2, 6-1, to give the Red Storm a 2-0 advantage. The lead was pushed to three when Kaneda earned his team-leading 15th win in singles play this season, shutting out Mascone in the No. 5 position, 6-0, 6-0.
Danilo Raicevic's 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Kanazirev gave the Johnnies their match-clinching fourth point. Raicevic is 11-1 in singles play this season. Sotelo emerged victorious for the fifth straight match after a back-and-forth battle with Virdee-Oakley on the No. 4 court, 6-1, 7-6, 7-3.
In his first action since March 20, Marco Cinotti picked up an 8-2 decision over Bingru Chen to finish out the 6-0 victory for St. John's.
The Red Storm improve to 8-0 all-time against the Rams and have swept seven of the eight meetings.
Fordham falls to 5-8 this season with the loss.
The Red Storm will wrap up its regular season slate with a BIG EAST matchup with Georgetown on April 10 in Washington, D.C.
