St. John’s Shines at the Tom Farrell Classic

The Red Storm compiled 13 wins and 35 top-five finishes in its final home meet of the year
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's track & field team wrapped up its regular season at the Tom Farrell Classic at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the meet, the St. John's track & field and cross country program honored its 11 graduating seniors and graduate students in a senior day ceremony.
As a team, the Johnnies compiled 13 wins and 35 top-five finishes across 15 different events.
Nora Haugen set a new event record in the 800-meter run with a personal-best 2:05.59 finishing time to take home first place. Ezgi Yasar placed second off a 2:18.55 mark. Jenna D'Onofrio and Blessing Assoumany rounded out the Red Storm's effort in the event with marks of 2:21.60 and a personal-best 2:21.80 for third and fourth place, respectively.
The Red Storm claimed a win in the discus behind Jamora Alves providing a 46.95-meter heave. Desiree Pagan and Martina De Buglio followed Alves for second and third place, respectively. Pagan registered a season-best throw of 40.77 meters while De Buglio notched a 38.68-meter effort.
Ismini Andreou gave the Johnnies a win in the hammer throw with a 48.53-meter hurl. Pagan tallied a second-place finish with a throw of 43.90 meters while De Buglio finished in third off a 43.45-meter toss.
In the shot put, Juliet Smith provided a win from a 12.22-meter heave to add to the Red Storm's successful day.
Amarachukwu Obi logged a first-place finish with a time of 12.17 seconds in her 100-meter dash debut. Karese Lloyd came in second place in the 100-meter prelims with a personal-best 12.36-second mark.
The Red Storm showed out in the 200-meter dash, taking four of the top five spots in the competition. Chinenye Onuorah came in first place off a mark of 24.43 seconds. Cassandra Lemus-Sodji tallied a personal-best 24.81-second result for second place. Jalen Jackson earned a personal-record time of 25.13 for fourth while Tea Siehou finished in fifth with a collegiate-best 25.25 second effort.
Zamira Ysaac rang up a win in the 400-meter hurdles, pacing the race in 1:03.79. Maddie Kelso-Heap logged a second-place effort on a 1:04.11 finishing time. Sophia Leslie finished in fifth place with a 1:08.18 result.
Claire Cushing took the top spot in the 3,000-meter run, breezing through the race in 10:21.21. Gabriella Caronia finished in second, off a time of 10:39.68 while Cristina Stanescu came in third at a pace of 11:44.52.
St. John's relay squad of Delicia Bent, Lemus-Sodji, Tea Siehou and Brooklyn Chestnut earned a win in the 4x100-meter relay with a finishing time of 47.11 seconds. The Johnnies' relay "B" team staked second place on a 48.16-meter mark.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the squad of Assoumany, Cushing, Ana Dobsa and D'Onofrio grabbed first place, finishing the race in 4:16.51.
The Red Storm claimed the top two spots in the triple jump on Saturday. Fia Viklund logged a first-place effort off a personal-best 11.62-meter leap while Rachel Hippolyte came in second with a launch of 11.03 meters.
All three Red Storm pole vaulters took the top three spots in their event. Meghan Ladd ended in first place off a 3.50-meter vault. Both Colette Metcalf and Berit Friedenbach recorded identical 3.35-meter marks for second.
In the 1,500-meter run, Cushing finished in second place after posting a 4:46.53 pace in the event.
Nia Holden sprinted her way to a third-place finish at a personal-record 58.40 time in the 400-meter run. Jackson came in fourth after notching a collegiate-best 58.64-second mark. Kara Sampath paced the race in 1:01.10 for sixth.
Ioanna Kyprianou nabbed a third-place mark of 5.02 meters in the long jump. Jordan Bruinton-Brown ended the event in sixth off a 4.52-meter effort.
The Red Storm will hit the road to Villanova, Pa., for the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships next weekend. The three-day competition will kick off on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m.
