The Red Storm compiled a 13-11 conference mark and a 29-25 overall record to clinch the fifth seed in the conference tournament for the second consecutive year. Villanova claimed the top spot in this year's bracket followed by UConn (2nd), Creighton (3rd), Seton Hall (4th) and Butler (6th).
St. John's enters the tournament on a four-game winning streak, allowing just one run across the stretch. On Sunday, the Red Storm concluded its regular season at Sacred Heart, downing the Pioneers, 6-0, after sweeping a doubleheader at Army in the middle of last week.
Ana Serafinko has tossed a shutout in her past two starts inside the circle, allowing just eight hits while striking out 18 batters in 14 blank innings. The sophomore has enjoyed a breakout season in Queens, leading the team with a 2.28 ERA and 157 strikeouts over 128.2 innings pitched. Serafinko has also been a threat from the batter's box, ranking second on the team with four home runs to go along with eight doubles and 14 RBIs.
Shortstop London Jarrard officially set a new single-season RBI program record, tallying her 50th of the season against Sacred Heart on Sunday. The junior hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning of the contest to break Erin Burner's mark of 49 RBIs which was set back in the 2015 season. Jarrard has led the Red Storm offense all year, slashing .324/.413/.601 with a career-high 10 home runs. In just her third season with St. John's, Jarrard eclipsed both the 100-hit and RBI threshold in her career earlier in the 2024 campaign.
Sophomore Loreley Francia closed out an impressive regular season by notching her team-leading 13th win inside the circle at Sacred Heart. The Spring, Texas product allowed just one hit while punching out five batters in five innings of work. Francia has been a workhorse for St. John's in 2024, tossing a team-high 133 innings while maintaining a 2.74 ERA with 145 strikeouts.
Florida natives Cassidy Stouffer and Sydney Totarsky each notched three hits against the Pioneers to lead the St. John's offensive attack. Stouffer logged her 12th double of the season while Totarsky crushed her third longball of the year in the seventh inning. The pair of sophomores have been a mainstay in the Johnnies' lineup all year with each starting over 45 games for the Red Storm.
Seton Hall enters the tournament after completing the BIG EAST regular season against DePaul last weekend. The Pirates took two of three from the Blue Demons to earn the fourth seed.
Two weeks ago, St. John's met with Seton Hall for its final conference series of the year at Red Storm Field. The Pirates took the opening two games before the Johnnies battled back to shut out the Pirates, 4-0, clinching a berth in this year's tournament.
St. John's leads the all-time series with a 62-33 record against Seton Hall. Despite 95 overall meetings, the two programs have just met one time in the conference tournament ahead of Wednesday's tilt. The Red Storm won the only meeting, 7-5, in the 2015 Championship Game behind the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Krystal Puga, recording two RBIs.
With a win, the Red Storm would advance to take on No. 1 Villanova at noon on Thursday. With a loss in the double-elimination format, the Johnnies would square off against the loser of Creighton vs. Butler at 6 p.m. on Wednesday to close out the opening day of the tournament.
