QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's track & field 800-meter runner Nora Haugen will battle against the best athletes in the country at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Oregon. The four-day national meet will kick off on Wednesday and will be held at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The meet will be nationally televised on ESPN2 with the final day of competition being aired on ESPN. Each individual event will also be shown on ESPN+. Tickets for the national championships can be purchased here.
Haugen will begin competing on Thursday in the 800-meter semifinals at 10:14 p.m. ET. If she is one of nine athletes to advance, she will race again on Saturday night in the 800-meter finals at 6:44 p.m. ET.
Following a record-breaking performance at the NCAA East Regional, Haugen earned a spot to represent St. John's on the national stage. The standout posted a new school record mark of 2:03.42 to finish fifth overall in the first round. Two days later, she set her own record once again with a time of 2:02:68 to qualify for the national meet.
The Sandnes, Norway product ran an eye-opening race in the NCAA Quarterfinal, coming out of last place at the midway point to finish fourth in her heat and 11th overall.
The sophomore's appearance in the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships marks the first since Claire Mooney qualified in 2016. Haugen is also the second Johnnie in as many seasons to qualify for the national championships. Last season, Jamora Alves competed in the discus in Austin, Texas.
Haugen has garnered immense success in her sophomore season in Queens, setting school records in the indoor and outdoor 800-meter run and the sprint medley relay six times throughout the 2024 campaign. She garnered several individual accolades as well, including BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week on May 8 and was named the inaugural Simon Hodnett Outstanding Performer Award recipient at the Indoor Metropolitan Championships. The All-BIG EAST Team member racked up six wins and has found the podium 11 times across three events during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
