St. John’s to Conclude Four-Game Homestand on Thursday Night against Cornell

Showdown between the Red Storm and Big Red will be streamed on FloSports
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's soccer team will conclude its four-match homestand on Thursday night when it faces Cornell at Belson Stadium.

The Red Storm hold a 3-1-2 record heading into Thursday's match and remain unbeaten at home. The squad has been stifling defensively ranking 14th in goals against average at an impressive clip of 0.33 Through six matches, the Johnnies have conceded just two goals for the first time since the 2016 season.
In its last match, St. John's battled to a scoreless draw with undefeated Monmouth on Sunday. The two played to a scoreless draw at Belson Stadium as the Red Storm have tallied 351 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
Malene Nielsen and Kayla Bower combined for a pair of shutouts in the win over UAlbany and the tie against Monmouth last week. The duo combined for seven saves in the draw with the Hawks and Nielsen was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Janelle Sylvestre also earned her first BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod of her young career. The freshman garnered recognition after tallying a pair of assists in the 2-0 win over UAlbany on Thursday. The Hamilton, Ontario, Canada native ranks seventh in the BIG EAST averaging 0.4 assists per contest.
Jordyn Levy continues to lead the attack with three goals on the year. The senior forward scored a pair of game-winners against Saint Joseph's and UAlbany and ranks 22nd in the country in that category.
The two sides will meet for the fifth time in the history of the two programs with St. John's leading the series, 2-0-2. During the last meeting, the Red Storm and Big Red battled to a scoreless draw in Ithaca, N.Y. on Sept. 17, 2022. The last meeting in Queens took place five years ago as Zsani Kajan scored a brace to power the Johnnies past Cornell, 2-0, on Sept. 23, 2019.
Cornell will arrive at Belson Stadium with a 1-1-3 record on the year. In its last time out, the Big Red played two a scoreless draw at Lehigh on Sunday. Goalkeeper Natalie Medugno tallied a season-high six saves against the Mountain Hawks.
Junior Tanum Nelson is leading the charge offensively recording a goal and an assist through five contests. The Duxbury, Vt., native has registered 17 shots and ranks atop the Ivy League with 3.4 strikes per game. Senior forward Laken Gallman has added one goal and an assist while logging 13 shot attempts.
Thursday's match marks the first of two contests for the Red Storm against an Ivy League opponent. On Sunday, St. John's will close its non-conference schedule at Penn for a 2 p.m. kick-off on ESPN+.
