St. John’s to Meet Georgetown on Wednesday

The Red Storm will take on the Hoyas at 7 p.m. in Washington D.C.
QUEENS, N.Y. –The St. John's women's basketball team will head to Washington D.C where it will take on Georgetown at McDonough Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The contest will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Christian Taylor and Monika Moore on the call from the Nation's Capital. Live Stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm (11-7, 1-6 BIG EAST) will look to get back in the win column after falling to Villanova, 66-64, in a nail-biter on Saturday afternoon inside Carnesecca Arena. The Johnnies rallied to score the game's final six points and nearly erased a 10-point deficit in the final 2:25 of the contest.
Five Johnnies finished in double-figures for the third time this season on Saturday and for the first time since the Red Storm took down Fairfield, 77-68, on Dec. 15.
Kylie Lavelle finished in double-digits for the third time in the last four games, tallying 13 points, five rebounds and a career-best four blocks against Villanova. Over the Moosic, Pa., native's last four contests, she is averaging 14.5 points per game and is shooting 70.5 percent from the floor.
Skye Owen tied Lavelle for a team-high 13 points to go along with a career-high six boards on Saturday afternoon. Jailah Donaldposted 11 points and six rebounds for her fourth double-figure outing of the season.
St. John's continued limit opponents on the defensive end against Villanova, forcing 13 turnovers and collecting 10 steals in the game. The Johnnies also limited its opponent to under 70 points for the 15th time this season. The group ranks 19th in the country in scoring defense, holding teams to just 55.4 points per game.
Ber'Nyah Mayo gathered a game-high four steals while Lashae Dwyer and Owen picked up two apiece. Dwyer has now registered a BIG EAST-leading 56 steals this season which is the eighth-best in the country. The senior's 3.1 steals per game also paces the conference and ranks 12th in NCAA Division I.
The Johnnies are one of the best teams in the country handling the ball, only committing eight turnovers last Saturday, marking the third time this season the Red Storm turned the ball over eight or fewer times. The squad comes into Wednesday's contest sitting 11th in fewest turnovers per game (12.1) and 29th in turnover margin (+5.7) nationally, as of Jan. 21.
St. John's and Georgetown will battle in the 75th all-time matchup between the two programs on Wednesday night. The Red Storm are winners of seven of their last 10 matchups with the Hoyas, dating back to the 2019-20 season.
Georgetown went 2-1 against the Red Storm last season, including a 53-44 win in the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals. In the last contest at McDonough Arena on Feb. 20, 2024, the Hoyas came out on top, 51-43. Jillian Archer finished with 10 points and tied a season-high with 14 rebounds in the game.
Georgetown will host the Johnnies with a 9-9 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the BIG EAST. In their last outing, the Hoyas defeated Providence, 60-48, at Alumni Hall on Saturday.
Kelsey Ransom has put together an impressive graduate season, leading Georgetown with 19.1 points per game, which is the second-best in the BIG EAST. The guard also paces the Hoyas with 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals per contest. Ariel Jenkins averages a double-double on 12.5 points per game and a BIG EAST-best 10.2 rebounds per appearance.
Following Wednesday's game, St. John's will stay on the road to meet Seton Hall on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. in South Orange, N.J.
