The Johnnies Won its Only Meeting Against the Broncs in Program History
The St. John's women's tennis team will face Rider on Wednesday afternoon in its second match of 2025. First serve from Cunningham Park is set for 12:15 p.m.
In the season opener, the Johnnies won the first four singles contests, erasing a 1-0 deficit to defeat Marist last Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center
Alicia Gomez earned a pair of victories on Friday to kick off her second year in Queens, while Giulia Bizzari and Charlotta Buss each registered the first wins of their St. John's careers. Sophomore Nicoline Sartz-Lunde also grabbed a point for the Johnnies against the Stags with a straight-set win on the No. 2 court.
Rider enters Wednesday's match 0-3 in dual match competition this season. Last time out, the Broncs were on the wrong end of a 4-0 sweep on the road against Army last Saturday. Maria Buss, younger sister of the Red Storm's Charlotta Buss, has two singles wins to lead the Broncs this year, while Laila Fishman and Daniela Naves have one win each.
The Red Storm and Broncs met for the first time last season in Queens, resulting in a 6-1 triumph for the home squad on Jan. 31, 2024. Sartz-Lunde and Noemi Babikova picked up singles wins for the Johnnies in the victory.
Following Wednesday's match, St. John's will head back to the USTA National Tennis Center on Friday to host Marist before welcoming Morgan State to Cunningham Park on Sunday.
