St. John’s Falls on the Road at Villanova

Moore and Wagner scored in double-figures on Monday at Finneran Pavilion
VILLANOVA, Pa.– The St. John's women's basketball team (11-3, 1-2 BIG EAST) fell on the road to Villanova (10-2, 3-0 BIG EAST), 85-48, on Monday afternoon at Finneran Pavilion.
The Wildcats caught fire offensively shooting above 50 percent from the field (50.7%) and from beyond the arc (52.4%) on Monday afternoon. Jasmine Bascoe led five Villanova players in double-figures with 21 points as the Wildcats led for the final 37:44 of the contest.
Three Johnnies- Brooke Moore (11), Shaulana Wagner (11) and Janeya Grant (10) reached double-digits in scoring. Daniela Abies and Sa'Mya Wyatt both grabbed a team-high five boards as Villanova outrebounded St. John's, 41-25.
Moore logged her 10th double-digit scoring outing over the last 11 games and leads the team averaging 14.9 points on 59.8% shooting on the year.
The Wildcats' Bascoe finished with a near double-double tallying a game-high 21 points on 64.3% shooting and nine assists.
After Wagner put the Johnnies ahead to start the contest, Villanova opened the first quarter shooting lights out from all over the floor to put the Red Storm in an early hole, 31-12, to end the first 10 minutes. Wagner scored eight of St. John's 12 points in the opening stanza as Villanova made 5-of-6 from beyond-the-arc in the first 10 minutes.
The Wildcats continued the attack, going on a 15-2 run in the first six minutes of the second as they continued to stretch their lead.
St. John's held steady out of the break, headed by Moore with eight points, two boards and one assist. Abies, Grant and Kyla Hayes combined for seven made field goals during the period, but Villanova maintained a 69-38 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The Red Storm held Villanova to 16 points in the final frame, the lowest scoring period for the Wildcats, to close out the game. Wyatt and Grant contributed 10 points in the last 10 minutes of play, as Villanova continued to hold its lead as Wildcats snapped the Red Storm's five-game winning streak away from home.
St. John's will take a short break for the holidays before it will return to action in Milwaukee on Dec. 29, when it meets Marquette at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
