St. John’s Heads To Nebraska to Take on Creighton and Omaha

The Johnnies are off to their best start since 2021
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team will head west for a pair of matches against BIG EAST foe Creighton on Saturday and Omaha on Sunday. Saturday's contests will begin at 3 p.m. ET at the Hanscom Tennis Courts, while Sunday's match will start at 10 a.m.
The Johnnies (8-0) are off to their best start since opening the 2021 season 9-0 and are coming off a pair of BIG EAST wins last weekend in West Point, N.Y., against Marquette and Georgetown. The Red Storm made quick work of the Golden Eagles last Saturday, picking up a 4-0 sweep, before shutting out Georgetown, 4-0, on Sunday. Of its eight wins in 2025, St. John's has shut out its opponents four times.
Ryota Kaneda has led the Red Storm this season with 13 combined victories. He has a perfect 7-0 record in doubles action alongside Adam Groves, to go along with a 6-0 mark in solo play. Leonardo Mileikowsky and Ignacio Vinas have each earned five singles wins, while Max Amling, Marco Cinotti, Danilo Raicevc and Armando Sotelo are all unbeaten in singles action.
Creighton enters the weekend 7-1 on the season and has won its last five contests. On Tuesday, the Blue Jays took down Nebraska Kearney, 6-1. Yuma Daijima, Zachary Kuo and Kirtan Patel are all 7-1 in singles action. Kuo and Patel's 6-1 mark as a pair in partner play leads the squad. Saturday will be Creighton's first BIG EAST contest of the season
Saturday will be the third all-time meeting between the Red Storm and the Blue Jays. When Creighton visited Queens last season, St. John's earned a 5-2 win behind a pair of victories from Sotelo. This will be the Johnnies' first trip to Omaha since 2014.
Omaha has won its last two games and sits at 3-3 on the season. Last Saturday, the Mavericks dominated Saint Louis on the road, 7-0. Prior to facing the Johnnies on Sunday, Omaha will host Butler on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Following this weekend's matches in Nebraska, the Johnnies will return home to face Brown on Friday, Feb. 21. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is set for 11 a.m.
