Nora Haugen Breaks School Record in Indoor 800-Meter Run at Eagle Elite Invitational

The Red Storm posted a win in the shot put with 14 top-10 finishes in 10 events
BOSTON – The St. John's track & field team showed out at Boston College's Eagle Elite Invitational in Boston inside the TRACK at New Balance on Friday.
The Red Storm posted a win in the shot put and 14 top-10 finishes across 10 events against the nation's best on Friday afternoon.
Nora Haugen broke the St. John's indoor 800-meter record for the second time in two weeks after posting a 2:05.87 finish for ninth place in the event. The junior had broken her own record at the Indoor Metropolitan Championships with a 2:06.25 finish for a gold medal.
Jamora Alves notched the fourth shot put win of her season, logging a 14.82-meter toss at The TRACK. Maja Henry ended in ninth place off a 10.88-meter heave on Friday.
Chinenye Onuorah took home a silver medal in the 200-meter dash, running the track in 24.41 seconds for second place. Ryana Dennis placed sixth off a season-best 24.75-second effort. Nyla Henderson finished in third for St. John's and eighth overall on a mark of 24.91 seconds in her 200-meter debut.
In the 60-meter dash, Cassandra Lemus-Sodji tallied a personal-best 7.57-second mark for third place. Danella Dawkins posted a fifth-place effort in the 60-meter hurdles, producing a time of 8.86 seconds.
Onuorah raced her way to third place in the 400-meter run, registering a finishing time of 53.63 seconds, which ranks fourth all-time in program history and leads the BIG EAST by over a second. Henderson, Dennis and Djassi Dean all rang up personal-record finishes in the 400 meters.
The Red Storm claimed fifth and sixth place in the triple jump, as Fia Viklund and Rachel Hippolyte earned 11.41 and 10.43-meter efforts, respectively.
St. John's relay squad of Amarachuckwu Obi, Maddie Kelso-Heap, Dean and Leilani Robinson put together a fifth-place mark of 3:58.85 in the 4x400-meter relay on Friday night.
Desiree Pagan tallied a career-best fifth-place heave of 16.01 meters in the weight throw. Juliet Smith produced a launch of 15.75 meters to end her day in eighth place.
Virginia Lloret led the Johnnies in the pole vault, putting up a seventh-place result and a 3.46-meter leap. Berit Friedenbach came in 10th, finishing with a 3.31-meter mark.
In the long jump, Ashley Sadler provided a 4.84-meter leap for ninth, while Jade Dockery placed 11th on a mark of 4.76 meters.
Leyre Campo De Quevedo continued her impressive freshman season, ringing up a personal-best time of 10:00.86 for 25th in the 3,000-meter run.
The Red Storm will be back in action tomorrow when Onuorah and Haugen compete in the 400-meter run at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the BU Tennis and Track Center in Boston at 9:45 a.m.
