St. John’s To Host Georgetown for Senior Night

The Red Storm will honor its five seniors and graduate students on Wednesday night
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's basketball team will welcome Georgetown to Queens for Senior Night on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Wednesday night's tilt will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Drew Casey and Edona Thaqi on the call from Carnesecca Arena. Live Stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The women's basketball team will honor Ariana Vanderhoop, Lashae Dwyer, Jade Blagrove, Phoenix Gedeon and Ber'Nyah Mayo in a pregame senior night ceremony for their contributions to the program and St. John's University over the course of their Red Storm tenures.
The Red Storm (14-13, 4-12 BIG EAST) will look to rebound after dropping its contest to Seton Hall, 66-57, on Sunday afternoon inside Carnesecca Arena. The Johnnies cut it to a five-point game at the halftime break before the Pirates caught fire from beyond-the-arc to start the second half by hitting four 3-pointers to run away with the victory. St. John's outscored the Pirates, 21-15, in the fourth quarter and outrebounded their opponent 36-to-30 on Sunday.
Additionally, the Red Storm shot 87.5 percent (14-16) from the free throw line on Sunday, marking the second-straight contest the team has made 85 percent or more of its free shots. On the season, the squad ranks 24th in the country in free throw percentage, making 77.2 percent of its shots from the charity stripe.
Dwyer earned her sixth BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod on Monday, after averaging 17.5 points on 60 percent shooting (15-25) from the field and 42.9 percent (3-7) from beyond-the-arc. She also rang up 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists against No. 23/23 Creighton and Seton Hall.
The senior scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting with six boards and three steals across 20 minutes of action on Sunday night. Dwyer has now registered 17 or more points in each of her last three appearances. The Toronto native's BIG EAST-leading 80 steals and 3.0 swipes per contest sit 12th and 13th in NCAA Division I, respectively.
Mayo tallied 15 points and a season-high seven rebounds against the Pirates. The graduate student went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line tying her career-high. Kylie Lavelle added 10 points for her 11th double-figure scoring performance of the season, to go along with three rebounds and a block.
St. John's and Georgetown will square off for the 76th time in the all-time series between the two programs and the second time this season on Wednesday night. The Red Storm hold a 43-32 lead in the all-time series, including a 22-11 edge in Carnesecca Arena. The Hoyas come into the matchup winners of three straight contests against the Red Storm.
In their last season's matchup inside Carnesecca Arena on Jan. 28, 2024, St. John's downed the Hoyas, 57-56. Unique Drake posted 18 points and shot 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in the game.
Georgetown will head to Queens with an 11-16 overall record and a 4-12 mark in the BIG EAST. In their last outing, the Hoyas fell to Marquette, 55-50, in Washington D.C., on Saturday. Kelsey Ransom scored 22 points in the game.
Ransom has put together an impressive graduate season, leading the BIG EAST with 19.9 points per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the floor. The guard also paces the Hoyas with 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. Ariel Jenkins averages a double-double on 11.8 points per game and a BIG EAST-best 10.2 rebounds per contest. The senior is shooting 49.6 percent from the field this season.
Following Wednesday's home finale, St. John's will head to Chicago to take on DePaul on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET, to conclude the regular season.
