St. John’s Sweeps Georgetown in Doubleheader, Extending Win Streak to Six Games

The Red Storm are 3-0 to open conference play and are 18-2 in its last 20 games
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 15, 2025) – The St. John's softball team (20-8-1, 3-0) took both games of a doubleheader against Georgetown to complete the series sweep on Saturday afternoon in Queens.
The Johnnies opened the day by taking down the Hoyas, 7-4, before winning the latter game in run-rule fashion with a 12-2 victory in five innings.
The Red Storm are now on a six-game winning streak and are 18-2 across its last 20 games. St. John's is also 4-0 at home to open the season after taking down Iona on Wednesday before sweeping the Hoyas at Red Storm Field.
St. John's hit five home runs between the two contests with London Jarrard launching one in each game, Madison Konopka hitting her first career homer, Celia Macari blasting her first of the season and Cassidy Stouffer drilling a grand slam in the second contest.
Jarrard notched three hits, four runs scored, four RBIs and two solo home runs between the two contests to lead the Red Storm offense. The shortstop is now batting an outstanding .443 to go along with five homers and 30 RBIs.
Konopka tallied three hits in total, including her first career home run with a two-run blast in the fourth inning of the opening contest. The freshman now has a home run and 10 RBIs through the first 29 games of her career.
Macari generated three hits in the pair of contests, which included a double and her first homer of the season. Stouffer also totaled three hits on the day, including a career-high six-RBI performance in the latter contest, which included a grand slam.
Starting pitchers Loreley Francia and Ana Serafinko notched their 11th and ninth wins inside the circle, respectively. Francia tossed 10 strikeouts and allowed four runs on six hits in a complete game effort in the opening game. Serafinko allowed just one earned in three innings of work to secure the win in the second contest.
Game 1
After Francia worked around a lead-off walk to toss a scoreless top of the first, Jarrard gave the Red Storm an early 1-0 advantage by blasting a solo home to center field.
The Hoyas threatened to respond in the top of the second, putting two on with an Abby Kozo single and Nina Sarlo walk, but Francia got out of the jam, recording a punchout and a groundout to hold the Red Storm's one-run edge.
Macari led off the bottom of the second by blasting the second St. John's home run in as many innings to give the Johnnies a 2-0 lead. An out later, Natalie Casto pulled a double down the left-field line before Jess Bianco singled to the shortstop, putting two on with two outs. Jarrard then pulled a hard RBI single through the right side, 3-0. Bianco added the third run of the frame when she swiped home on a double steal with Jarrard, who took second base, 4-0.
Georgetown cracked the run column in the top of the third, plating two runs on back-to-back RBI doubles by Emily Strittmatter and Kozo to cut St. John's lead to 4-2.
Francia settled back in on the rubber, tossing a scoreless top of third while recording her sixth strikeout of the ballgame to hold the Johnnies' two-run edge.
In the home half of the fourth, Casto led off by slapping a single into right field before Konopka crushed a two-run homer over the center-field wall, 6-2.
Francia continued to roll inside the circle, sitting the Hoyas down 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth with a groundout, flyout and her seventh strikeout of the contest, 6-2.
Stouffer led off the bottom of the fifth by sending the first Red Storm triple of the season down the right-field line. On the next pitch, Macari dumped an RBI single into right field to plate Stouffer and extend St. John's lead to 7-2.
The score remained until the top of the seventh when Strittmatter launched a two-run home run with two outs, 7-4. Francia recorded the final out on a weak ground ball to second, sealing the victory in game one for St. John's.
Game 2
Georgetown plated the first run in the latter game on a Danaya Campos RBI groundout to bring home Claire Turner, who walked to open the contest, 1-0. Serafinko ended the opening frame by picking up her first punchout of the contest.
The Red Storm offense struck back in a big way in the home half, plating 11 runs in the bottom of the first. The Johnnies started by loading the bases behind a Bianco single, Jarrard hit by pitch and Elanna Lysiak base hit before Stouffer launched a grand slam to left-center, 4-1. St. John's loaded the bases again when Macari doubled to left and Melanie Santos and Casto drew a pair of walks. Konopka then grounded an RBI single up the middle ahead of Bianco walking and Jarrard being hit by a pitch to bring home three runs in total, 7-1. After the Hoyas recorded the second out of the inning, Lysiak and Stouffer each recorded a two-RBI single to give the Red Storm a 10-run lead after the opening frame.
Serafinko found her groove inside the circle, notching a scoreless second and third, while punching out a pair to keep the score at 11-1.
