St. John’s Squeaks Past Monmouth, 4-3

The Johnnies are 16-2 this season, the best start in program history
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The St. John's men's tennis team earned a gritty 4-3 victory over Monmouth on Wednesday in West Long Branch, N.J.
The Johnnies squeaked out the team point before winning three singles matches to claim its 16th victory of the season.
Carl Gustavsson and Danilo Raicevic picked up a win by default at No. 3 singles before Monmouth evened the score on the No. 2 court. Armando Sotelo and Max Amling clinched the point for the visitors with a 6-4 triumph over Mateo Bivol and Louis Keller at No. 1 doubles.
Raicevic earned his second win by default of the match to kick off singles play on the No. 6 court before Leonardo Milekowsky took down Sasha Vysochenko on the No. 5 court, 7-6, 6-1, giving the Red Storm a 3-0 lead. Ignacio Vinas gave St. John's its match-clinching fourth point on the No. 4 court by defeating Diego Laporta in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Monmouth earned its three points with wins on the No. 1, 2 and 3 courts.
With the win, St. John's improves to 4-2 all-time against the Hawks.
St. John's will return to action on Saturday when it wraps up its three-match road trip in West Haven, Conn., against Yale.Team Stats
