St. John’s to Face Hobart on Saturday in Ridgefield, Conn.

The Johnnies will square off with the Statesmen for the first time since 2009
The St. John's lacrosse team will seek its second consecutive victory on Saturday when it travels to Ridgefield, Conn., to face Hobart. Faceoff from Tiger Hollow Stadium at Ridgefield High School is set for 12 p.m.

The Johnnies (3-6) are coming off a record-breaking 20-16 victory over Mercer last Saturday, tallying its first 20-score output since 2013. Several Red Storm players broke career highs against the Bears. Adrian Nowak's six goals and Brian Kelly's nine points on six assists all set new career marks, as did Adam Dembicki's 22 faceoff victories and 11 groundballs. Wade Bryan netted the first goal of his freshman campaign, while Zander Hauck tallied the first assist of his collegiate tenure.
St. John's took a slight 12-11 lead at the half but was able to hold the Bears to just five second-half scores, earning its first victory of March.
The St. John's attack of Kelly, Nowak and Ryan Ormond continued its strong play this season, combining for 19 points on Saturday against Mercer. Kelly's nine points bring his career total to 174, one short of moving into a tie for third on the program's all-time points list. His three goals against Mercer gave him 102 for his career, becoming just the fifth player in program history to eclipse the century mark. Through nine games this season, Kelly is second in the BIG EAST with 1.9 assists per game. The second-year captain is also seventh in the conference with 2.3 goals per contest and has scored in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Nowak's six-score explosion broke a streak of consecutive one-goal outings and marked his third performance this season with at least five points. The redshirt sophomore is second on the team behind Kelly with 31 points on 17 goals and 14 helpers.
Kelly and Nowak's career performances netted them each a spot on the BIG EAST's weekly honors. Kelly was tabbed Player of the Week for the second time this season and Nowak earned an Honor Roll selection.
Ormond found the back of the net four times on Saturday for the third game of his freshman campaign with at least four scores. The North Carolina product has 17 goals and three assists in just six games, while fellow rookie Mitch Campbell dished three assists against the Bears, giving him a balanced eight goals and 10 assists.
Ormond and Campbell's offensive outputs, along with Jayson Cardenas' 15 points, give the three freshmen a combined 53 points this season.
Senior midfielder Bobby Seel tied his career best with six points on Saturday against Mercer, his seventh-straight multipoint game and second hat trick of 2025. The three goals and three points extended his active point streak to 25 games, dating back to the final game of the 2023 season against Providence.
Netminder Patrick Scarborough made 16 stops over the weekend and has a 50 percent save rate in five of his seven starts and six performances with 10 or more saves.
Dembicki had the best outing of his two-year tenure, winning 22-of-30 draws, a 73.3 percent clip. The strong day at the faceoff 'X' brought his season mark to 49.3 percent.
Saturday will be the third all-time meeting between the Red Storm and the Statesmen and the first since 2009. Hobart won both previous matchups.
Hobart won two of its first three games to start the season but has dropped four of its last five, most recently falling last Saturday at Dartmouth, 17-5.
Will Delano leads the Statesmen with 21 points on 12 points and nine assists, while Alex Rosa has a team-high 17 scores. Five Hobart players have double-figure point totals, and 20 athletes have at least one point.
Defensively, Brady Comella leads the Statesmen with eight caused turnovers, while Michael Schafer and Nolan Firth each have seven.
At the faceoff 'X', Cole Emmanuel has won 74-of-117 draws and has scooped 50 groundballs, helping Hobart own the nation's sixth-best faceoff winning percentage, sitting at a 62.3 mark.
Between the pipes, Jackson Failola has received a decision in six games and has a 2-4 mark, stopping 41 percent of the shots he faces.
Following Saturday's neutral site meeting in Western Connecticut, the Johnnies will head to Milwaukee, Wisc., to kick off BIG EAST play against Marquette.
