St. John’s to Battle Wagner and Central Connecticut State This Week

The Red Storm is coming off its third-straight series win
QUEENS, N.Y. – Fresh off its third straight series win, the St. John's baseball team will take on Wagner and Central Connecticut State in a pair of midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, respectively.
The Red Storm (10-12) will head to Staten Island, N.Y., to battle the Seahawks on Tuesday at SIHU Community Park, before returning home to play host to the Blue Devils at Jack Kaiser Stadium. First pitch for both contests is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday's matchup will be streamed on NEC Front Row, with Wednesday's game being streamed to FloSports. The Johnnies are coming off their third straight series win, this time taking two of three games against Winthrop (L 1-15, W 20-15, W 11-9) at The Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill S.C. With the pair of wins, St. John's has now won nine of its last 11 games, dating back to its 11-3 win over NJIT on March 8.
Jace Jeremiah and Luke Orbon both registered batting averages over .400 last weekend, as Jeremiah paced the squad with a .467/.467/.533 slash line on a team-best seven hits and five RBIs. The infielder also scored three runs, smacked a double and stole a base against the Eagles. Orbon impressed last weekend, slashing .429/.467/.429 with six hits, four runs, three RBIs and a stolen base.
Jackson Tucker, Jayder Raifstanger, Jared Beebe and Sean Britt all batted over .300 in Rock Hill, S.C. Tucker and Raifstanger each scored five runs and smacked five hits. Tucker also stole three bases in the series, bringing his team-best total to 16, which ranks 21st in the Nation.
In the Red Storm's 20-15 win in game two of last weekend's series, the team's 20 runs and 22 hits marked the most by the program since the 2023 season. Tucker was tremendous on Saturday, scoring a career-high five runs, the most by a member of the Red Storm since Jamie Galazin scored the same amount against UConn on March 16, 2018. Beebe reached base in all seven appearances at the plate, totaling four hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch with two RBIs and two scores.
Down nine after the third inning, St. John's rallied back for the second day in a row, using an eight-run seventh inning to drop Winthrop, 11-9, in Sunday afternoon's rubber match. Shaun McMillan was integral in the Red Storm's comeback, totaling a team-best and season-high four RBIs with two runs on two hits, including his team-leading fourth homer of the year. Tyler Longoria and Sam Mettert were phenomenal out of the bullpen, combining for six scoreless innings.
St. John's and Wagner will battle for the 74th time in program history on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Storm leads the all-time series 61-12 and boasts a 29-10 mark against the Seahawks in Staten Island. Last season, the Johnnies won their sole meeting with Wagner, 8-2, at Jack Kaiser Stadium, where Cristian Bernardini smacked a three-run homer in the fifth inning.
Wagner will host the Johnnies in Staten Island with a 12-10 overall record and a 7-2 mark in the NEC. The Seahawks have won five straight games, most recently sweeping Coppin State in a three-game series in Baltimore.
Bryce Phelps is having a great season at the plate, leading Wagner with a .410 batting average on a team-best 34 hits and seven doubles. The senior has also tallied 22 runs, 11 RBIs, 12 walks and two stolen bases across 22 appearances.
The Johnnies will take on Central Connecticut State for the 11th time in the all-time series and the first time since 2015. The Red Storm has dominated the Blue Devils at home, coming into the series with a perfect 7-0 record at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
Central Connecticut will head to New York with an 11-3 record and an 8-1 mark in the NEC. Blue Devils are coming off a three-game series sweep over Mercyhurst and are riding a seven-game winning streak into the contest.
Five Blue Devils are batting over .400 with Kyle Gordon leading the way. The outfielder is slashing. 520/.600/.680 on 13 hits, two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Aidan Redahan is hitting .429 alongside a team-best 24 hits, 21 RBIs, five doubles, three homers and 21 runs scored. Jackson Haker has also smashed three home runs and 10 RBIs.
