St. John’s Welcomes Providence for a Three-Game Series

The Red Storm sit atop the BIG EAST standings with a 5-1 record in conference play
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team is set to continue BIG EAST play when it welcomes Providence to Queens for a three-game series this weekend.
The opening contest will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, while the first pitch of game two is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The series will conclude at noon on Sunday.
The entire series will be streamed on ESPN+, and Live Stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies enter the weekend with a 23-10-1 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the BIG EAST. The Red Storm fell to Fordham, 4-1, on Wednesday after taking two of three games against Butler last weekend. The Bulldogs narrowly took down the Red Storm in Friday's opening contest, 2-1, before St. John's swept Saturday's doubleheader, winning the first contest 5-4 before routing Butler by a score of 8-2 in the latter game.
The Red Storm's pitching staff has been one of the best in the nation in 2025, ranking first in all of Division I with 315 punchouts and 9.75 strikeouts per seven innings. Juniors Ana Serafinko and Loreley Francia have combined for 288 of the 315 strikeouts for St. John's. Serafinko ranks second in the country with 167 punchouts, while Francia is tied for 16th with 121 strikeouts.
On Monday, Serafinko was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in her career. The left-hander appeared in all four of the Red Storm's games last week, going 2-1 with one save inside the circle. Serafinko held a 1.45 ERA and racked up 38 strikeouts in 19.1 innings pitched. The Chino Hills, Calif., product tossed 15 strikeouts in Friday's opening contest against Butler before sealing the series win on Saturday with a complete-game, 11-strikeout performance to take down the Bulldogs.
Elanna Lysiak paced the Red Storm batting lineup last week, leading to her first career BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod. The outfielder rides a six-game hitting streak after going 7-for-12 (5.38) with three runs scored, two doubles and four RBIs across four games. Lysiak delivered the eventual game-winning hit for the Johnnies in the middle contest at Butler, lining a two-RBI single in the sixth inning to give the Red Storm a crucial 5-4 victory. The junior has taken a major leap this season, batting .3 and ranks second on the squad with seven doubles, four home runs and 27 RBIs.
Senior London Jarrard added to her stellar career resume last weekend, picking up her 200th career hit in Saturday's first game at Butler. The shortstop recorded hit No. 200 with an RBI single to center field in the first inning of the contest. Jarrard leads the Red Storm on offense this season with a .420 batting average, nine doubles, five home runs and 33 RBIs.
Providence begins the weekend with an 11-17 overall record and a 6-3 mark in the BIG EAST. The Friars most recently split a doubleheader with Rhode Island on Tuesday, taking down the Rams 10-1 before falling in the latter game 5-4. In its last conference series, Providence swept DePaul in the Windy City.
Sophomore Cameron Dunn tops the Friars' lineup, batting .397 with six home runs and 27 RBIs. The Bothell, Wash., product was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after totaling two homers and six RBIs last week. Inside the circle, Tori Grifone leads Providence's pitching staff, holding a 5.43 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched.
St. John's and Providence have met on 104 previous occasions, meeting every season for its annual three-game series. The Red Storm own a 59-45 all-time advantage and hold an impressive 33-15 record over the Friars at home.
In last year's series, Providence took two of three games against St. John's in Rhode Island. In the opening contest, the Johnnies took down the Friars, 3-2, in the ninth inning as Jarrard had a career day, going 5-for-5 from the dish.
