St. John’s Visits Marquette on Saturday to Kick Off BIG EAST Play

The Johnnies will look to make it two straight wins against the Golden Eagles
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team will travel to Milwaukee to begin BIG EAST competition on Saturday against Marquette. Faceoff from the Seasonal Dome at Valley Fields is set for 12 p.m. ET.
The 13th all-time meeting between the conference foes will be streamed on the FloCollege with Matt Menzl and Eric Simon on the call. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies (4-6) wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule last Saturday with a 13-11 neutral site triumph over Hobart at Ridgefield High School in Ridgefield, Conn., earning a second consecutive win for the first time this season.
After tallying a career-best nine points last weekend in the team's 20-16 win over Mercer on March 15, Brian Kelly added four scores and three helpers against the Statesmen and earned a spot on the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll. Freshman Ryan Ormond had his second-consecutive four-goal game, while Jayson Cardenas had two fourth-quarter goals, and Mitch Campbell added two helpers and a score.
LSM Dylan Lee tied his career-high with three caused turnovers to go along with four ground balls, earning him BIG EAST Specialist of the Week honors for the first time in his career. In net, Patrick Scarborough matched his season-best with 16 saves, holding Hobart scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the third quarter.
In addition to earning the BIG EAST weekly honor, Kelly was added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch list this week after the senior's seven points on Saturday pushed him over 40 points for the fourth straight year. Kelly stands atop the BIG EAST and is 17th in the nation with 4.5 points per game and is second in the conference and 19th in Division I lacrosse with 2.0 assists each game.
The Red Hook, N.Y., has found twine in 13 straight games, dating back to last season and has six games with at least five points this season.
Ormond enters his first conference game with four four-score games this season and leads the BIG EAST with 2.6 goals per contest. The rookie from North Carolina is second on the team behind Kelly with 21 goals and 24 points.
Campbell and Cardenas have also continued to produce through 10 games, tallying 21 and 17 points this season, respectively. Along with Ormond's production, the three freshmen have combined for 62 points this season.
Midfielder Bobby Seel heads to Milwaukee owning a 26-game point streak, while attackman Adrian Nowak has points in every game this season and is fifth in the BIG EAST with 1.5 assists per contest and 12th in the conference with 1.7 goals each game.
Second-year Johnnie Drew Wasserman has been very efficient this season, scoring nine goals on just 16 shots, recording multiple goals in two straight games
Lee and freshman Quinn Falasca are top three in the BIG EAST in caused turnovers per game, anchoring a St. John's defense that caused 8.4 giveaways each contest.
Between the pipes, Patrick Scarborough has four 16-save and is eighth in the nation with 13.4 saves per game.
When the Johnnies and Golden Eagles met in Queens last season, five points from Kelly propelled St. John's to a 13-9 win, its first BIG EAST victory since 2016 and its first triumph over Marquette since 2013.
Marquette (5-3) took down Air Force last Saturday, 9-8, in Milwaukee for its third-straight win.
Nolan Rappis leads the Golden Eagles with 34 points on 21 goals and 13 assists and is tied for first in the conference with 2.6 goals per game. Preseason All-BIG EAST Selection Bobby O'Grady has 27 points on 16 scores and 11 helpers. Matt Caputo, Will Foster and Carsen Brant have each eclipsed the 20-point mark under first-year Head Coach Jake Richard's balanced offense.
As a team, the Marquette boast the conference's top-scoring offense, tallying 12.1 goals per game, and the No. 1 man-up offense in the conference, converting 65 percent of its opportunities.
Defensively, Jackson Nichols holds the team lead with seven caused turnovers, but nine Marquette players have at least three caused giveaways.
At the faceoff 'X', the Golden Eagles have won 52.2 percent of draws, led by Adam Slager, who is 68-of-117 with a team-high 33 groundballs. Slager's 58.1 percent win rate is second highest in the BIG EAST and 19th nationally. In net, Lucas Lawas has a 5-3 record, recording the decision in all eight games this season. Lawas allows 12.6 goals per game and has a save percentage of 45.4.
Following Saturday's matchup in Wisconsin, the Johnnies will return home to face No. 20/20 Denver on April 5. Faceoff from Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium is set for 12 p.m.
