The Red Storm earn the series victory over the Friars and improve to 7-1 in BIG EAST play
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (25-10-1, 7-1) earned a 2-1 victory over Providence as Cassidy Stouffer hit the game-winning home run in the sixth inning at Red Storm Field on Saturday afternoon.
Stouffer's solo home run marked the 100th hit of her career as she has compiled 30 hits to bat .309 so far this season. The left fielder now has four homers and 21 RBIs in 2025.
Loreley Francia picked up her team-leading 13th win inside the circle, allowing just one earned run on five hits while punching out three batters in six innings of work. The Spring, Texas product holds a 1.54 ERA and has struck out 124 batters in 104.1 innings this year.
Ana Serafinko closed out the game for the Johnnies in the top of the seventh, earning her fourth save in 2025. The left-hander picked up the win in game one of the series yesterday, tossing a complete game while punching out 10 batters in the 9-2 win.
Jess Bianco generated the other Red Storm run, coming around to score on a wild pitch after drawing a lead-off walk in the first inning. The junior leads the squad with 40 runs scored.
Natalie Casto, Madison Konopka, and Celia Macari all chipped in base hits for the Red Storm offense.
In the top of the first, Francia made quick work of Providence (11-19, 6-5), sitting the Friars 1-2-3 on just nine pitches to keep the game scoreless.
The Red Storm struck early in the bottom of the first when Bianco and London Jarrard opened the game by drawing a pair of walks. The duo then advanced twice on wild pitches, allowing Bianco to cross the plate to give the Johnnies a 1-0 advantage.
The Friars responded in the top of the second, with Cameron Dunn hitting a solo home run to center field, knotting the score at 1-1.
Francia and Providence's starter, Alyssa Twomey, then engaged in a pitcher's duel, exchanging blank frames to keep the game at 1-1 after four innings of play.
After Francia recorded another scoreless frame in the top of the fifth, Casto and Konopka strung together the first hits for St. John's with a pair of singles to left field, putting runners on first and second with one out. However, Twomey rallied to record the final two outs and keep the Red Storm off the scoreboard and the game even at 1-1.
In the top of the sixth, Francia recorded her second 1-2-3 inning of the day to keep the game knotted.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Stouffer gave the Red Storm a late lead by hitting an opposite-field solo home run to right-center, breaking the tie, 2-1. Macari added a single, but Twomey tallied the third out to keep St. John's advantage at one run.
Serafinko then entered in relief of Francia in the top of the seventh, working around a pair of one-out walks to earn the save and give St. John's the series victory over Providence with the 2-1 triumph.
The Red Storm will look to sweep the Friars in tomorrow's final contest of the three-game series at noon in Queens.
