St. John’s Dominates at The Big Hurt

The Red Storm won 10 events at its annual home meet
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's track & field team dominated at its annual home meet, the Big Hurt, on Saturday at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, N.Y
As a team, the Johnnies racked up 10 wins and 24 top-five finishes across 12 events at their annual home meet.
Leyre Campo de Quevedo finished in first place in the 1,500-meter run, producing an event record finishing time of 4:38.21 in her first collegiate appearance in the race. Ezgi Yasar came in fourth place off a mark of 4:56.61.
Later in the day, Campo de Quevedo picked up a second-place mark of 2:22.58 in her first-ever 800-meter run. Ana Dobsa placed fourth on a time of 2:26.80, while Yasar and Mia Torres finished in sixth and eighth place off 2:30.81 and 2:45.00 finishing times, respectively.
Ciara Wiltshire picked up a win in the 400-meter hurdles, racing the track in an event-record and personal-best 1:06.13. Sophia Leslie tacked on a third-place result, finishing the contest in a personal-record 1:07.66.
In the shot put, Jamora Alves, Juliet Smith and Desiree Pagan took the top three spots in the event. Alves set an event record of 14.35 meters for first place, while Smith followed behind her in second with a heave of 11.95 meters. Pagan rounded out the Johnnies' effort in the shot put, recording a throw of 11.93 meters.
In her first meet of the year, Linn Hertz won the long jump with a leap of 5.48 meters. Jade Dockery registered a season-best jump of 5.30 meters for third, placing ahead of Ashley Sadler who produced a mark of 4.98 meters to place fifth.
Sadler added a win to the Red Storm's total in the high jump, leaping a meet and personal-record 1.63 meters. Ruth Smith provided a jump of 1.55 meters for second place in the event.
Fia Viklund won the triple jump with a meet-record and personal-best leap of 11.89 meters. Rachel Hippolyte logged a fourth-place effort of 11.15 meters in the contest.
The Red Storm's 4x400-meter relay squad of Leslie, Torres, Sadler and Wiltshire took the top spot in the event, breezing across the track in 4:14.81.
Brenin Mahon staked a win in the 3,000-meter run, ringing up an event record 11:31.16 finishing time for first.
Berit Friedenbach, Colette Metcalf and Virginia Lloret all took the top three spots in the pole vault.
In the 200-meter dash, Jalen Jackson placed second, breaking the event-record with a personal-best 23.96-second finish. Ava Spencer came in fourth on a career-record mark of 24.31 seconds, before Pagan who paced the event in 20.64 seconds.
Spencer finished in sixth place in the 100-meter dash, pacing the track in 12.92 seconds.
The Red Storm will split up next week between the Outdoor Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium on Friday, April 4 and Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday, April 5.
