The Red Storm returns home after opening the season with 10 straight road contests
QUEENS, N.Y. – After 10 games on the road to start the season, the St. John's baseball team will return to Queens, hosting NJIT in its home opener beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
Both Saturday and Sunday's contests are slated to start at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed on FloSports while live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm (1-9) will open its home slate on Friday, following a four-game road trip where it squared off with Louisville and Ohio State.
Against the Buckeyes on Tuesday, St. John's posted 10 runs on 12 hits in Columbus, Ohio, closing out its stay in the Midwest. Jared Beebe and Shaun McMillan both went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and three RBIs. Anthony Brienza and Jon LeGrande logged two hits and two runs apiece, while Jackson Tucker scored twice and stole a base against the Buckeyes. LeGrande and McMillan each launched homers in the contest, coming in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
Jayder Raifstanger has opened 2025 on fire, most recently being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, after an impressive showing against Louisville. The sophomore led the team with a .636 batting average, seven hits, four of which went for extra bases, and six RBIs. In the Johnnies' 13-7 victory over the Cardinals, he had a career 3-for-4 day at the plate, setting new bests of three RBIs, and two doubles. The Great Barrington, Mass., native followed up his performance at Ohio State, where he tallied a pair of two-baggers, RBIs and runs scored.
On the year, the Johnnies' third baseman paces the squad with a .395/.489/.632 slash line, 15 hits, including four doubles, a triple and a home run, eight RBIs and five runs scored. His batting average sits seventh in the BIG EAST. Additionally, the standout holds a team-best 10-game on-base streak, reaching safely in every contest so far this season. He also carries a four-game hitting streak into the weekend, while boasting five multi-hit games and three outings with multiple RBIs.
