St. John’s to Continue BIG EAST Play Against Xavier

The Red Storm went 3-1 against the Musketeers last season
QUEENS, N.Y. – Riding a four-game winning streak, the St. John's baseball team will continue BIG EAST play by hosting a three-game series against Xavier, beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. from Jack Kaiser Stadium.
First pitch for Saturday's contest is slated for 1 p.m., while Sunday's series finale will start at noon. The entire set will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm (16-13, 3-0 BIG EAST) are riding a four-game winning streak, after sweeping Seton Hall last weekend and taking down Iona, 8-3, on Tuesday in New Rochelle. Luke Orbon led the pack on Tuesday, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored against the Gaels. Jace Jeremiah had a 2-for-3 day, registering a double and an RBI at City Park, while Jon LeGrande tallied a pair of RBIs, both of which came off a double in the fifth inning.
Jackson Tucker extended his on-base streak to a career-best 24 games, after logging a hit, a walk and a run in New Rochelle. The speedy outfielder sits 33rd in the nation with 19 stolen bases and is ranked as the 103rd toughest to strikeout batter in the country. In his career, the Staten Island, N.Y., native has racked up 82 stolen bags which is three away from tying Giancarlo DiPrima for fourth all-time on the Red Storm's career stolen bases list. Additionally, the senior comes into the weekend just four hits shy of eclipsing the 200-career hit mark.
Jared Beebe earned his first-ever BIG EAST Player of the Week nod on Monday, after dominating last week with a .625/.667/1.000 slash line on 10 hits, three doubles, a home run, eight runs scored and four RBIs. In last Friday's series opener against Seton Hall, the senior slapped three doubles, becoming the first Johnnie to do so since Blake Mayberry, who had three against UConn on April 13, 2024. On the season, the first baseman ranks 45th in the country with three triples and 57th with 12 two-baggers.
As a team, the Johnnies sit second in the BIG EAST and 128th in the nation with a .282 batting average. The team is also second in the league in scoring (7.0 R/G) and third in slugging (.414) and triples (10). Nationally, the Red Storm is 42nd in triples and 94th in stolen bases in NCAA Division I.
St. John's and Xavier will matchup for the 38th time in the all-time series on Friday afternoon. The Johnnies hold a slim 19-18 all-time edge over the Musketeers and a 9-6 record at Jack Kaiser Stadium. Last year, the Red Storm went 3-1 against Xavier, going 2-1 in its regular season series in Cincinnati, Ohio, along with an 8-7 win in the second round of the BIG EAST Tournament. With the Johnnies trailing, 7-6, heading into the bottom of the eighth at Prasco Park, now-Assistant Coach, Garrett Scavelli, smacked a leadoff single through the left side. Two batters later, Jimmy Keenan belted a game-winning two-run rocket into the left-field scoreboard.
Xavier will head to Queens for the first time since 2023 with a 19-15 overall record and a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST Play. The Musketeers went 1-1 in its two midweek contests in the Joe Nuxhall Classic at Prasco Park. Xavier opened the week with a 6-4 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday, before falling to Wright State, 10-8, on Wednesday night.
