St. John’s to Wrap Up Regular Season on Friday Against RV Providence

QUEENS, N.Y. (APRIL 24, 2025) – The St. John's lacrosse team will conclude its 2025 campaign on Friday when it heads up to the First State to take on RV Providence. Faceoff from Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium is set for 7 p.m.

The Johnnies (4-10, 0-4 BIG EAST) own victories this season over Quinnipiac, NJIT, Mercer and Hobart, but are coming off a 21-8 setback to No. 17/17 Georgetown last Saturday in Queens. Adrian Nowak had a team-best three points, while Brian Kelly, Drew Wasserman and Sean Rice each had two-point outings.
Kelly enters Friday's season finale with 57 points this season, the most by a St. John's player since Kieran McCardle had 79 in 2014. The Red Hook, N.Y., enters the final game of his Red Storm career with 193 points and 114 goals over four years, both the third most in program history.
The senior captain is on a 17-game point streak, dating back to last season, and is third in the BIG EAST with 4.2 points per game.
Nowak went for multiple points for the ninth time in the past 10 games against Georgetown, scoring a pair and dishing a helper last Saturday. The redshirt sophomore has 22 goals and 18 assists this season, becoming the second Johnnie this season to eclipse the 40-point mark.
Kelly and Nowak, along with freshman Ryan Ormond's 22 goals and five assists, have combined for 128 points and 78 goals this season, accounting for over half of the team's scoring production through 14 games.
Bobby Seel found twine against the Hoyas, recording at least one point for the 29th time in the last 30 games. The fourth-year Johnnie has reached 30 points for the second straight year, tallying a balanced 17 goals and 14 assists in 2025.
Rookies Jayson Cardenas and Mitch Campbell continued their productive freshmen campaigns last weekend, recording a point each for their 22 points of the season, while Wasserman and Dan Koban each netted their 10th goal of 2025 against the Hoyas.
Defensively, Quinn Falasca forced three turnovers last Saturday, bringing his team-high total to 24 on the year. His 1.7 caused turnovers per game is third best in the conference and 24th nationally. Dylan Lee is right behind his fellow long-pole, causing 1.5 turnovers per contest, fourth most in the BIG EAST.
Between the pipes, Patrick Scarborough has 35 saves over his last two outings, including matching his career-best with 18 stops against Villanova on April 12. The Dickinson graduate transfer leads the conference and is sixth in Division I lacrosse with 13.8 saves per game.
Friday will be the 25th all-time meeting between the Red Storm and the Friars, with St. John's leading the all-time series, 15-9.
Providence clinched a BIG EAST Tournament berth with its first-ever victory over Denver last weekend, 10-6, in Denver, Colo. The Friars took a 9-1 lead and were able to hold on, improving to 6-7 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.
Ryan Bell leads the Friars with 53 points on 13 goals and a BIG EAST-best 40 assists, while Jack Horrigan and Richie Joseph have 42 and 40 points, respectively. Seven Providence players have at least 10 points this season, while 25 have recorded a point.
On the defensive end, Gregg Dennison leads the Friars with 14 caused turnovers and Ian Olenik has 13 forced giveaways.
Quinn McConnaughey has taken the majority of the team's faceoffs, winning 148-of-259, a 57.1 percent rate. Between the pipes, Dan Donahue has played in 13 games and made 10.8 saves per game, stopping 51.7 percent of the shots he faces.
