Shaun McMillan went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs

INDIANAPOLIS – The St. John's baseball team (27-22, 11-8 BIG EAST) fell to Butler (15-37, 4-15 BIG EAST), 10-8, in Thursday afternoon's series opener at Bulldog Park in Indianapolis, Ind.

Shaun McMillan put together his third four-hit game of the season, finishing a triple shy of the cycle with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Jackson Tucker and Luke Orbon also picked up a hit with a pair of RBIs. Tucker added a tally, two walks and a stolen base to his totals on Thursday. With his score, the senior moved into a tie with Matt Wessinger for second on the program's all-time career runs list, making it to home plate safely 194 times in his four-year tenure.

Jon LeGrande logged a pair of hits with a stolen base, a score and a walk. Jared Beebe smacked a solo home run, his fifth of the year in the first inning. Adam Agresti scored twice, reaching on a pair of walks

Chad Falcon went for a career-high 4.2 innings of relief, allowing three earned runs with a career-best four strikeouts.

The Johnnies kicked the game off with a bang, taking a lead in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Beebe hammered a 383-foot home run to left field, giving the Red Storm an initial 1-0 edge.

In the bottom side of the first, Butler grabbed the lead. After two players reached on a walk and a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer put the Bulldogs in front, 3-1.

Butler scored two more runs in the bottom of the second stanza. A pair of Bulldogs made it to first on two singles before moving over on a sacrifice bunt. They both scored on a two-run one-bagger, extending the home advantage to four, 5-1.

St. John's tacked on a tally in the away half of the third frame. Tucker worked a walk and advanced to third base on a hit-by-pitch and a flyout. McMillan proceeded to lace an RBI double into left-center field, scoring Tucker and cutting the deficit to three, 5-2.

In the flip side of the third, Butler continued its scoring production. The Bulldogs used an RBI single followed by a Red Storm error one out later, bringing two runners home to increase their lead to five, 7-2.

The slugfest marched forward as the Johnnies scored a pair of runs in the opening half of the fourth inning. Agresti led off the side with a six-pitch walk, while LeGrande was issued a free pass. Tucker then slapped a two-run single down the left-field line, rounding both Agresti and LeGrande home to trail by three, 7-4.

Following scoreless fifth and sixth frames, the Red Storm posted another run in the away side of the seventh. McMillan led off the frame by cranking the first pitch of the side 405 feet over the left field fence for a solo shot, cutting the home edge down to two, 7-5.

Butler countered right back in the bottom of the seventh. A Jack Moroknek solo home run and a sacrifice fly notched two tallies for the Bulldogs. The home team added another run in the home half of the eighth after a runner scored on a St. John's defensive miscue, pushing their advantage to 10-5.

St. John's juiced the bases in the top of the ninth, as McMillan and Will Cowan smacked singles and Agresti walked. Orbon sent a two-run base hit up the middle, plating McMillan and Cowan, in front of Agresti scoring on a fielder's choice. Butler was able to hold off the Johnnies' rally, ending the frame with a flyout to take the contest, 10-8.

The Red Storm will continue its series against the Bulldogs tomorrow afternoon at Bulldog Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Indianapolis, Ind.
