St. John’s Travels to Nation’s Capital for Battle with Georgetown

Red Storm is coming off 49-39 victory over Butler on Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team will travel to the nation's capital to take on Georgetown at 7 p.m.
Tuesday's contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Dorian Craft and Martin Bahar on the call from McDonough Arena.
In its most recent outing, St. John's (14-4, 4-3 BIG EAST) edged Butler, 49-39, at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm defense stifled the Bulldogs, limiting them to 39 points on 28.6% (16-of-56) shooting from the field and just 18.2% (4-22) from beyond the arc. The total matched the lowest point total by a BIG EAST opponent since St. John's held Butler to 35 points in a 47-35 win on Feb. 13, 2021.
For the fourth consecutive game, Beautiful Waheed led St. John's in scoring. The junior scored 16 points, one shy of her career high, while setting a new personal best with five blocks. The Milwaukee native also pulled down six rebounds and shot efficiently, connecting on 4-of-7 (57.1%) attempts from beyond the arc, shooting 50% (5-of-10) overall, and converting both free throws. Sa'Mya Wyatt delivered another strong performance with 13 points and tied her career-high with four assists.
Daniela Abies surpassed the 500-career rebound milestone, reaching the mark with her second of eight rebounds in the contest. St. John's controlled the glass, outrebounding Butler 49–39, behind a team-high 10 rebounds from Brooke Moore.
Through 18 games, the Red Storm have showcased their defensive prowess. The Johnnies lead the league and are ranked 19th in the country with 5.3 blocked shots per game. Moore and Waheed spearhead this effort, with Moore averaging 1.3 rejections per contest and Waheed, just behind her, with 1.2 blocks per outing.
