Fencing Hosts St. John’s Super Cup on Saturday

Men’s team finishes second; women place fifth at Carnesecca Arena
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams hosted the annual St. John's Super Cup on Saturday inside Carnesecca Arena and Taffner Field House.
The men's squad finished second overall placing behind tournament champion Notre Dame after posting a 4-1 record on the day with victories over Columbia, Ohio State, Princeton and Harvard. On the women's side, the Red Storm placed fifth in a competitive national field. Princeton was crowned the women's champion after defeating both Notre Dame and Columbia in a three-way tie.
On the men's side, sophomore Vlad Covaliu paced the saber group with 11 victories, while junior Adham Moataz added 10 wins and sophomore Darii Lukashenko contributed nine. In epee, Samuel Imrek totaled 10 wins, Adam Horvath added nine and Daniil Mazur finished with seven, with Mazur closing out the meet with a 2-1 mark against Harvard. In foil, freshman Sebastian Garcia posted eight victories, including a 3-0 final round, while sophomore Jan Nowak added eight wins and junior Igor Wozniak contributed seven.
On the women's side, sophomore Nicole Feygin led St. John's with 11 victories in epee, including a 3-0 showing against Ohio State and another 3-0 performance against Harvard. In foil, junior Elisa Treglia tallied nine wins, highlighted by a 3-0 mark against Notre Dame, while in saber, junior Catinca Dumitru anchored the group with nine victories.
St. John's returns to action on Feb. 1 when it travels to Staten Island, N.Y., to compete in the Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational, hosted by Wagner.
