St. John’s to Host Georgetown for Senior Night

The Red Storm have won four of the last five contests against the Hoyas in Carnesecca Arena
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team will host Georgetown for Senior Night and the BIG EAST Black Fives game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Red Storm will honor four graduating players, two graduate students and five student managers on Senior Night.
In conjunction with the BIG EAST and the Black Fives Foundation will honor the pre-NBA and WNBA history of African Americans in basketball.
Johnnies Day is the annual celebration in which the University invites all students, alumni, employees, and others to show their St. John's pride. As part of the Johnnies Day week-long festivities, the Alumni Office is hosting its 1870 court pre-game reception starting at 4:30 p.m. with appetizers and a drink voucher. All fans who show their game ticket will receive free admission to the 1870 court, located in Marillac Hall. Fans will also receive this year's Johnnies Day poster at halftime of the game.
In its most recent outing, a third-quarter surge lifted St. John's (20-8, 10-7 BIG EAST) over Buter, 58-47, on Valentine's Day. The win secured the sixth 20-win campaign in the 14-year tenure of Joe Tartamella as head coach. Every St. John's player who entered the game contributed points, with Sa'Mya Wyatt leading the way with 12. Janeya Grant chipped in 10 to reach double figures, while Daniela Abies paced the team on the boards with 12 rebounds. On the defensive end, St. John's kept Butler from producing a single double-digit scorer.
For the second straight week, Wyatt earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition, her third selection this season. The Powder Springs, Ga. native averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 1-1 week, highlighted by 16 points at DePaul and 12 points in a win over Butler.
Through 28 games, the Red Storm have emerged as one of the conference's top defensive teams. St. John's ranks third in the BIG EAST and 28th nationally with 4.8 blocks per game, while Beautiful Waheed is fifth in the league individually, averaging 1.2 rejections per contest.
St. John's and Georgetown (12-13, 5-11 BIG EAST) will face off for the second time this season and the 77th meeting overall on Wednesday night. The Red Storm lead the all-time series 44-32 and have won four of the last five contests at Carnesecca Arena. Earlier this season, St. John's took a road loss to the Hoyas on Jan. 13. Wyatt recorded 11 points and tied a career-high 13 rebounds in the nation's capital.
The Hoyas enter the matchup on a five-game skid, with all but one of those defeats coming by eight points or fewer, dating back to Jan. 29. In its latest outing, Georgetown dropped a 59-54 decision at Providence on Valentine's Day.
Khai Miller is shooting 83.5% from the free-throw line, good for third in the league and 83rd in NCAA Division I. She also leads his team with 10.3 points per game, connecting on 41.2% of her field-goal attempts while maintaining an 83.5% mark from the charity stripe.
The Hoyas rank third in the league and 47th nationally with 24.3 points per game from their bench. Georgetown also stands second in the BIG EAST and 65th in the country with 13.6 offensive rebounds per contest. As a team, the Hoyas are second in the conference in turnovers forced per game (18.1) and in free throws made (12.2)
Following Wednesday's contest, St. John's will travel to Seton Hall for the final road game of the regular season on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
