St. John’s Completes Sweep Against Adelphi and Binghamton

Red Storm improve to 5-1 on the season
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team earned a pair of victories on Wednesday at Cunningham Park, defeating Adelphi, 5-2 , and Binghamton, 7-0. With the two wins, the Red Storm improve to 5-1 on the year.
In the opening match, St. John's secured the doubles point and claimed four singles victories to defeat Panthers, 5-2.
The duo of Semen Agynskyy and Adam Groves opened doubles play with a 6-4 win on the No. 3 court over Leo Silverstein and Spyridon Papageorgiou. Radomir Tomic and Danilo Raicevic clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies with a 6-2 victory against Viktor Hockl and Andrea Albiero.
In singles play, Filip Paroulek extended the Red Storm's advantage, as the freshman cruised past Thomas Horsley, 6-3, 6-0, on the No. 5 court. With a 2-0 lead, Agynskyy secured his second victory of the day, defeating Viktor Hockl, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 1 position. Mats Pottbecker clinched the team win for the Johnnies with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Papageorgiou on the No. 4 court.
Adelphi earned points at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots, but Taichi Wakamatsu closed out the match for St. John's with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Silverstein on the No. 6 court, sealing the 5-2 result.
St. John's moves to 3-0 all time against the Panthers following Wednesday's win.
In the second match, the Red Storm continued their winning ways with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Binghamton in the 11th meeting between the two programs, dating back to 2005.
The Johnnies carried the momentum into the second match, claiming the doubles point and sweeping all six singles contests to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Radomir Tomic and Danilo Raicevic earned their second doubles victory of the day with a 6-1 win over Giannis Sakkas and Andre Ajed on the No. 2 court. Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy secured the doubles point for the Johnnies, notching their second win as a pair with a 6-2 triumph over Andrew Fang and Ronin Lotlikar on the No. 3 court.
In singles play, Venedikt Tsirikidze cruised past Giannis Sakkas, 6-3, 6-4, on the No. 5 court. With the Red Storm holding a 2-0 advantage, Armando Sotelo extended the lead with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Andre Ajed at the No. 4 position. Wakamatsu secured his second win of the day and clinched the match for the Johnnies, defeating Andrew Fang in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, on the No. 6 court.
The Red Storm continued to roll, as David Petrovic, Radomir Tomic and Filip Paroulek recorded straight-set victories at the No. 2, No. 1 and No. 3 courts, respectively, to complete the 7-0 sweep of Binghamton.

The Red Storm will be back in action on Friday when Dillon Pottish's squad is set to take on VCU at Cunningham Park. First-serve is set for 11 a.m.
