QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team continues its season-opening road swing, heading out west to take on Arizona State for a three-game set.
The series will begin on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET. On Saturday, first pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET, and the rubber match on Sunday is set for 3 p.m. ET. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Johnnies (1-3) opened the 2026 campaign in DeLand, Fla., playing four games in three days at Melching Field at Conrad Park. In the season opener, St. John's fell to Ball State, 4-3. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Cardinals battled back late, resulting in the Johnnies coming up just short on Feb. 13.
On Feb. 14, the Red Storm dropped a pair of contests against Minnesota and Ball State in a doubleheader. St. John's closed out the opening weekend on Feb. 15 with an 11-7 victory over host Stetson. The offense broke out for 11 runs, including seven in the first two innings and were backed by dominant bullpen to secure the team's first win of the 2026 campaign.
Senior standout Jon LeGrande earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. The outfielder finished the week hitting .357, scoring three runs while driving in four, including a home run and a double, and led the team with four stolen bases during the opening weekend of the 2026 campaign.
A trio of transfers, including Liam O'Leary, Lewis Rodriguez and Rob Mansour, have already made an impact in their first weekend as Johnnies. O'Leary was the Red Storm's Friday starter, as the junior right-hander went 5.0 innings, allowing just one run and striking out four batters on 76 pitches against Ball State. Rodriguez went .294 as the primary leadoff batter in all four contests, recording a double and a triple while driving in a run. Mansour registered a .267 on the weekend and knocked in a run.
In relief, freshman Thomas Harding recorded the win against Stetson in 1.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits. Senior right-hander Connor Burns notched the first save of the year for the Red Storm with 3.0 innings of scoreless ball against Stetson.
Arizona State enters the weekend 4-0 after defeating UConn on Tuesday evening, 17-7. Last weekend, the Sun Devils completed a sweep of Omaha in Tempe. Arizona State averaged eight runs per contest during the opening weekend, batting .330 as a team. Five ASU players are currently batting over .400. The Sun Devils pitching staff holds a 4.25 ERA.
Last year, Arizona State finished with a 36-24 overall record and an 18-12 mark in Big 12 play, finishing fifth. After falling in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament, the Sun Devils made it to their 41st NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Sun Devils returns two All-Big 12 First Team selections in Cole Carlon and Landon Hairston. Carlon was also named an NCBWA All-American for his efforts as a relief pitcher, while Hairston was named to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team. Carlon is off to a strong start this year, as the left-handed pitcher has a 1.80 ERA in his lone start against Omaha. Hairston is building off his rookie campaign with a .385 batting average, five hits, three doubles and three RBIs.
After its weekend series in Tempe, the Red Storm head to Lexington, Ky., to take on Kentucky for a three-game tilt at Kentucky Proud Park from Feb. 27 to March 1.
