QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team held its annual Bullpen Banquet on Thursday night at Giando on the Water in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Thursday night's event featured a roundtable discussion with Joe Girardi, a World Series champion as both a player and manager for the New York Yankees, and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1976 ECAC Championship team. Former Johnnie and MLB player CJ Nitkowski of Bally Sports Atlanta served as the emcee.
Head Coach Mike Hampton addressed the attendees, honoring the 1976 ECAC Champion baseball team and previewing the upcoming 2026 season, which is set to begin on Feb. 13 against Ball State in DeLand, Fla.
"Tonight, we also celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the 1976 ECAC Championship and Northeast Regional team that set a school record with 33 wins, one of the many tremendous teams coached by the late, great Joe Russo," said Hampton. "I've been with this program for more than 25 years, and I'm continually amazed at the level of personal investment and support from
our alumni across generations."
The night also saw awards presented to the top players from last season, as Jed Boyle was the recipient of the Howie Greshberg Award as the team's top pitcher, and Jared Bebee took home the Peter P. Smith Award as the squad's most valuable offensive player.
Over 185 people were in attendance for Thursday's event, including members of St. John's Board of Governors and Board of Trustees. The banquet assisted in raising funds for renovations to the Jack Kaiser Stadium scoreboard. The Johnnies have multiple ongoing raffles, including four tickets and four pregame field passes for one New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves game during the series occurring at Citi Field from July 27-29. Bidding ends tonight at midnight.
