St. John’s Cruises Past Creighton, 5-2 on Friday

The Red Storm improve to 3-0 in BIG EAST play
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team defeated BIG EAST opponent Creighton (10-7, 2-1 BIG EAST), 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
With the win, the Red Storm improve to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST play, capturing eight of their last nine matches.
The duo of Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy opened doubles action with a 7-6 victory over Rocky McKenzie and Jack McMahon on the No. 2 court. On the No. 3 court, Sergej Zivkovic and Taichi Wakamatsu clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies with a 7-5 win against Zachary Kuo and Yuma Daijima.
Creighton responded by taking the first singles match on the No. 6 court, but Agynskyy quickly restored the Red Storm's advantage with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kuo on the No. 3 court.
The Bluejays evened the match again with a win on the No. 2 court before Radomir Tomic delivered a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Daijima on the No. 4 court to give St. John's a 3-2 lead.
Armando Sotelo sealed the team victory with a thrilling 7-6, 5-7, 11-9 three-set win over McKenzie on the No. 5 court. Zivkovic added the final point for the Johnnies with a singles victory to secure the 5-2 final.
Following the victory, the Johnnies improve to 5-0 against Creighton, dating back to 2014.
St. John's will return to action on Sunday when it travels to Providence, Rhode Island to face the Brown Bears men's tennis. First serve from the Brown Varsity Tennis Courts is scheduled for 10 a.m.
