QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team will look to return to the win column on Saturday when it hosts Brown at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium. Face-off in Queens is set for 1 p.m.
The Red Storm are coming off a narrow 12–11 loss to Mercer in Macon, Ga., despite mounting a strong second-half comeback. Trailing by as many as five goals, St. John's used a 6–2 run to pull within one late in the fourth quarter. Mitch Campbell led the offense with a career-high four goals and one assist, while Noah Plenn, Jake Wright and Jayson Cardenas each recorded two goals.
In goal, Matt Nelson turned in another standout performance with 15 saves, marking his seventh game this season with double-digit stops.
The Red Storm also capitalized on key man-up opportunities and leaned on their nationally ranked man-down unit to remain within striking distance throughout the contest.
Brown enters Saturday's matchup with a 4–2 record following a 13–6 victory over UMass Lowell on Tuesday. After opening the season 3–1, the Bears dropped contests to No. 6 North Carolina and No. 11 Cornell.
Following a 3–10 finish in 2025, Head Coach Jon Torpey returns four of the team's top five scorers. The Bears are led offensively by senior captain Marcus Wertheim, who recorded 29 points (19 goals, 10 assists) last season and currently leads the team with 20 points on 14 goals and six assists. Jeremy Hopsicker has also been a key contributor, pacing the team with 19 goals after totaling 16 points during his junior campaign.
Defensively, Brown is anchored by All-Ivy League Second Team selection Charlie Cave, who posted 23 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls while starting every game last season.
Saturday's contest will mark the first-ever meeting between St. John's and Brown, with both teams looking to gain an early edge in the all-time series.
Following the matchup with the Bears, the Red Storm will remain home to open BIG EAST play against Villanova on March 28. Face-off from Belson Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
