St. John’s to Face FDU and Marist for Midweek Matchups

The Red Storm will play last two-game midweek series on Tuesday and Wednesday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team will face FDU and Marist for a pair of midweek matchups beginning on Tuesday at Jack Kaiser Stadium. Wednesday's matchup at Marist will be at Heritage Financial Park.
Both games are set for 3 p.m. and live stats will be available on redstormsports.com. Tuesday's matchup in Queens will be available to stream on ESPN+ with Kevin Connelly on the call.
Liam O'Leary earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. The righty hurler took the mound for the series-opening 8-1 victory at UT Arlington on Friday, March 20. The junior pitched 8.0 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out two on 102 pitches and earning the win.
Through six starts this season, O'Leary has logged 37.2 innings with a 2.39 ERA, ranking second in the conference and 85th nationally. The Souderton, Pa., native leads the Johnnie pitching staff with 24 strikeouts, and opposing hitters are batting just .246 against him.
In this past weekend's road series, St. John's (9-13, 0-0 BIG EAST) secured its third straight series of the season, taking the first two games of three at UT Arlington.
In the series opener on March 20, the Red Storm defeated UTA, 8-1, fueled by a dominant outing from O'Leary and a milestone performance from Jayder Raifstanger. O'Leary tossed eight strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits, while Victor Frederick closed it out in the ninth. Saturday's 7-3 victory featured clutch hitting from Jeremy Delamota and Hunter Ray, with Nick Noble closing out a nine-out save. Sunday, freshman Drew Cisney delivered six innings of one-run ball with a career-high ten strikeouts, supported by two home runs from Jeremy Cheeseman and timely hitting from Jimmy Mantuano and Garryn Plummer, as FDU won 10-1 to cap the homestand. Johnathan Gomez leads all of NCAA Division I in scoring 1.90 runs per game and ranking third nationally with 38 runs scored. Hunter Ray is a top base stealer, ranking 51st nationally with 0.60 steals per game. At the plate, Jimmy Mantuano stands out with a low strikeout rate, ranking fifth nationally for being one of the toughest hitters to strike out. Diego Urreta excels at driving in runs, averaging 1.40 RBIs per game, tops in the conference and 30th nationally, and boasts a sharp eye with 1.25 walks per game, ranking ninth in the country and second in the NEC.
