St. John’s Closes Out Weekend Series with CBU

Red Storm are back in action on Tuesday against Wagner
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team fell in the series finale to California Baptist, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Runs were hard to come by, but the Lancers (24-5) managed to push four across, while the Red Storm (10-17) had multiple opportunities but could not capitalize.
Six different Johnnies recorded a hit, with Jon LeGrande, Adam Agresti and Rob Mansour each reaching base twice. LeGrande also added a stolen base.
Ian Mowad went 4.0 innings in the start, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two. In relief, Jack Nestler tossed 3.0 innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts.
St. John's threatened early in the bottom of the second, loading the bases with two outs, but came away empty-handed.
California Baptist plated the first run in the third inning and added another in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.
The Red Storm again loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth but were unable to break through against the Lancers' pitching staff.
California Baptist added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth and held off St. John's in the ninth to secure the 4-0 win.
St. John's returns home for a midweek matchup against Wagner on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before heading to South Orange, N.J., to open BIG EAST play from April 2-4.
