Johnnies Suffer Setback at Providence

Makenna Meadows drives in two runs as Red Storm drops series opener
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The St. John's softball team fell to Providence, 8-3, on Friday afternoon in the opener of a three-game BIG EAST series at Glay Field.
The Red Storm (26-14, 6-7 BIG EAST) recorded three runs while tallying four hits in the contest. Makenna Meadows drove in two runs for the Johnnies, while Natasha Limbani added an RBI. Ana Serafinko led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double and a run scored, while Madison Konopka also recorded a hit.
In the circle, Serafinko recorded her 200th strikeout of the season in the bottom of the third inning, adding to the senior southpaw's second-highest 2026 total in NCAA Division I. The Chino Hills, Calif., native finished with eight strikeouts in her 16th complete game of the season.
Providence (17-14, 8-2 BIG EAST) took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after two St. John's errors allowed an unearned run to score.
The Friars extended their advantage in the third inning with a pair of runs to move ahead, 3-0.
St. John's responded in the fourth inning when Meadows lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score pinch runner Alyssa Platero, trimming the deficit to two.
Providence pushed its lead to 7-1 in the fifth inning behind a grand slam.
The Johnnies responded in the sixth. Limbani delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Elanna Lysiak before Meadows drove in Serafinko on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Providence added one more insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth to extend the lead, 8-3.
St. John's will continue its three-game BIG EAST series against the conference-leading Friars on Saturday afternoon at Glay Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. Game two will be broadcast on Friars.com, with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
