QUEENS, N.Y. (April 10, 2026) – The St. John's track and field team is set to compete at the South Florida Invitational, hosted by USF on Saturday. This marks the second trip of the outdoor to the Sunshine State for the Red Storm.
Action from the USF Track and Field Complex kicks off at 10 a.m. with the field events, while the track events are set to begin at 4 p.m. Live results can be found here.
Last time out, the Johnnies captured their second straight title at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, totaling 207 points as the only team to surpass the 100-point mark. The Red Storm recorded 11 event wins and 24 podium finishes, highlighted by Jamora Alves and Ryana Dennis earning Most Valuable Performer honors.
Alves was named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week following her double-gold performance in the shot put and discus. The Grenada native became the first Johnnie to earn a weekly award during the 2026 outdoor season and the first field athlete to do so since Linn Hertz Saebbo during the indoor season. It marked the fourth weekly honor of Alves' career and her first since April 15, 2025.
The senior returns to the circle this weekend to compete in the discus, carrying a season-best mark of 51.80 meters (169 feet, 11 inches) set at Icahn Stadium last weekend.
Also in the field events, Ruth Smith and Ashley Sadler will compete in the high jump, with both clearing a bar of 1.65m (5 feet, 5 inches) this year. Cassandra Lemus-Sodji is slated to compete in both the long jump and 100-meter dash after recording a season-best leap of 6.15m (20 feet, 2.25 inches) at the USF Alumni Invitational.
On the track, Naiara Garcia-Moreno looks to continue her strong season in the 800-meters. The program record holder remains unbeaten this outdoor season, including wins in both the 800 and 1,500 meters at the USF Alumni Invitational.
Six Johnnies are set to compete in the 400-meter dash, with Chinenye Josephine Onourah, Jalen Jackson and Kettia Ambrose doubling in both the 200 and 400 meters.
Following Saturday's competition, St. John's is scheduled for split action next weekend. A portion of the squad will make its way to Storrs, Conn., the site of the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, presented by Jeep, at the UConn Northeast Challenge from April 17-18. The rest of team will travel to Rutgers for the 2026 ECAC Outdoor Championships from April 17-19.
