WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. John's lacrosse team dropped their contest against Georgetown, 18-11 on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
Adrian Nowak led the way for the Red Storm offense with three goals while Owen Rogers and Brody Hergott each had a pair of goals.
AJ Jeffares, Ethan Wiegand, Mitch Campbell and Jake Wright each got a tally of their own.
Matt Nelson collected 11 saves, marking 12th game this season with double-digit saves.
Rogers opened the scoring just over a minute into the game, finishing a feed from Hergott to give St. John's an early 1-0 lead. Georgetown responded with two quick goals to take the advantage before a defensive stretch slowed the pace of play.
The Hoyas extended their lead to 3-1 before Nowak cut the deficit in half with 3:09 remaining in the quarter. Georgetown answered with a pair of goals, but Wiegand won the ensuing faceoff and scored just six seconds later to make it 5-3. Hergott added a late tally to trim the deficit to 5-4 at the end of the first.
Georgetown opened the second quarter with a goal to push the lead to 6-4 before both teams traded empty possessions. Nowak netted his second of the game with 10:26 remaining to bring St. John's within one, but the Hoyas responded with three straight goals to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
Rogers struck again early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to three, but Georgetown answered with back-to-back goals to extend its lead to 11-6. Wright found the back of the net 43 seconds later, but the Hoyas closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 16-7 advantage into the final period.
Georgetown opened the fourth quarter with a goal just over a minute in before both teams went scoreless for several minutes. Nowak completed his hat trick with 9:00 remaining, sparking a late push for the Red Storm.
Following a pair of key saves from Nelson and a St. John's timeout, Campbell found the back of the net with 6:06 to play. After a Georgetown penalty, Hergott added his second goal of the game, and Jeffares scored 40 seconds later to continue the momentum.
Georgetown added a late goal to secure an 18-11 victory.
