The Red Storm enter the contest on a five-game out-of-league win streak
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team is set to close out its non-conference slate against Stony Brook for Senior Day on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. in Queens. The Red Storm will be honoring six players, the Director of Baseball Operations and one manager for a Senior Day celebration prior to the contest. Fans can watch the game on ESPN+.
The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free hat courtesy of RedZone, and all fans in attendance can enjoy a free ice cream cone from Mister Softee's.
St. John's (26-21, 11-4 BIG EAST) captured a key BIG EAST series win over Creighton, winning two of three games behind a potent offense and timely pitching. The Red Storm opened with a 10-2 victory on Friday, powered by Shaun McMillan's two-home run, four-RBI performance and backed by six strong innings from Liam O'Leary.
The Johnnies then clinched the series with an 11-3 win on Saturday, highlighted by a 3-for-4 standout effort from Jon LeGrande and a combined outing on the mound by Evan Chaffee and Jack Nestler. In Sunday's finale, St. John's battled back from an early deficit but ultimately fell 6-5 as Creighton edged ahead late. Following the weekend series win over the Bluejays, St. John's has moved into first place in the BIG EAST standings.
LeGrande and O'Leary earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, with LeGrande being named player of the week. This marks the seventh consecutive week that St. John's baseball has been represented on the weekly honor roll.
The Red Storm hold a 15-17 mark in non-conference play, scoring five or more runs in 15 of 32 games and recording seven double-digit scoring performances. Since the start of conference play, St. John's has won all four of its midweek non-conference matchups, plating at least nine runs in each contest.
The Johnnies enter tomorrow's contest on a five-game non-conference winning streak, dating back to a March 31 win over Wagner. During this stretch, St. John's is slashing .316/.438/.537 with seven home runs, three triples, 12 doubles, 46 RBIs and 52 runs scored.
On the mound, left-hander Joe Mascio returned for his first appearance of the season last Tuesday after missing all of 2025 due to injury. He made an immediate impact, tossing a scoreless, hitless opening frame against Hofstra to earn the win.
Offensively, McMillan has led the Johnnies in non-conference play, slashing .320/.392/.469 with a team-high 41 hits. The sophomore has added four home runs, a triple, five doubles, 21 runs scored and 23 RBIs across 32 non-league games and has stayed hot recently with two home runs and five RBIs over his last three outings.
St. John's and Stony Brook (19-25, 12-12 CAA) will face off for the fifth time, with the series dating back to 2001. The Red Storm hold a 4-2 edge in the all-time series and a 3-1 advantage in Queens. The Johnnies last faced the Seawolves last year on May 6, 2025, with the Red Storm taking an 8-4 win over Stony Brook at home.
Stony Brook earned a pair of decisive wins over non-conference opponent UMass Lowell this past weekend. The Seawolves opened with an 11-1 run-rule victory in seven innings on Friday, powered by Chanz Doughty's six-RBI performance, including a bases-clearing double, while Micah Worley, who owns a 2.26 ERA (20th nationally), tossed five scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the win. Stony Brook followed with an 8-4 victory on Sunday, using a four-run fifth inning to take control and complete the sweep.
The Seawolves now sit at 7-20 in non-conference play and have won two straight non-league games. After a challenging start to the season against a tough out-of-CAA schedule that included Arkansas State and Georgia Tech, Stony Brook has found its rhythm in the latter half. The Seawolves have won seven of their last 10 non-conference matchups, scoring 10 or more runs in four of those games and earning three run-rule victories during that stretch.
Following the midweek contest, St. John's will travel to Villanova for a three-game series starting on Friday at 3 p.m. at Villanova Park.
