Former All-American and local-standout Brooke DeRosa joined the St. John[apos]s coaching staff in March 2013.
DeRosa, a Ronkonkama, N.Y., native brings more than 10 years of coaching experience from both the youth and collegiate levels. She was an All-America selection for the Hofstra Pride in 2007 and spent last season as an assistant coach for her alma mater where she helped lead Hofstra to a Colonial Athletic Association championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to her coaching stint at Hofstra, DeRosa was the head women[apos]s soccer coach for Nassau Community College from 2011-2012. During her one year at Nassau CC, DeRosa coached the Lions to an 8-5-3 record and saw eight players earn All-Region XV honors, including five first team selections. Before her year with Nassau CC, she served as head junior varsity coach at Calhoun High School in Bellmore, N.Y.
Additionally, DeRosa[apos]s other coaching experience includes serving as a trainer for Intense Soccer Academy, Soccer Tots and various soccer clubs around Long Island. She also served as a counselor for the Long Island Rough Riders Soccer Camp for nine years.
DeRosa began her playing career at Syracuse, where she was a BIG EAST All-Rookie selection in 2002 as a midfielder/defender. DeRosa played three years with the Orange before transferring back to Long Island to play for the Hofstra Pride. During her one season with Hofstra, she switched to forward and helped the Pride to an 18-4 record, a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In her one season, she recorded 33 points from 14 goals and five assists and ranked second in the CAA in scoring. Her 14 goals are the second-best single season total in program history, while the 33 points are third in the single season record book. For her efforts, DeRosa earned third team All-America honors from the NSCAA and was a first team all-conference selection as well as an all-tournament team member.
A local-standout, DeRosa played for the Long Island Rough Riders organization from 2002-04 and from 2007-12. She was a five-year letterwinner on the Connetquot High School soccer team and was the first eighth grade female to play varsity soccer in school history.
DeRosa earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Syracuse University and is currently pursuing a master of science in art education from Hofstra University.
DeRosa currently resides in her native town of Ronkonkama with her six-year-old daughter Ciara.
