Meyerhoff Paces Red Storm At BIG EAST Championships

JAMESVILLE, N.Y. - Junior Samantha Meyerhoff led all Red Storm runners in the annual 6K BIG EAST Championships, hosted by Syracuse University at Jamesville Beach Park in Jamesville, N.Y.
A native of Mesa, Ariz., Meyerhoff finished 76th overall with a time of 23:43 and an average mile time of 6:22.
The Red Storm placed 14th as a team with 423 total points. The squad's average time was 24:36 and all five scoring runners finished in the top 100 points slots.
Junior Nicole Cocozza crossed the finish line just seven places behind Meyerhoff, completing the race in 24:03 and placing 83rd overall. Senior Sarah Sudbury finished third on the team with a time of 24:42.
Junior Aryon Trujillo and freshman Chelsea Trant rounded out the team's scoring five with times of 25:03 and 25:31, respectively.
Freshman Angela Jarvela ran a time of 26:19, while senior Katrina Schaefer crossed the line in 28:29.
Villanova took first place in the women's division for the third-consecutive season in a field of 133 runners. Syracuse won the BIG EAST men's title.
St. John's will next compete in the NCAA Northeast Regionals on Nov. 13 in Madison, Conn.
