Red Storm Cross Country Competes At Metropolitan Championships

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - St. John's placed eighth at the annual Metropolitan Championships, held Friday at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, N.Y. St. John's scored 201 points in the 5K race, registering an average time of 20:20 among the top five runners.
Junior Samantha Meyerhoff led the team with a time of 19:13, placing 14th overall in the 135-person field.
Freshman Chelsea Trant produced one of her best performances of the season by finishing second on the team and 43rd overall, crossing the line in 20:10.
Junior Nicole Cocozza finished in 20:25, placing third on the team, while senior Sarah Sudbury clocked in at 20:33, putting her 54th overall. Finishing in 21:16, junior Aryon Trujillo rounded out the scoring five for St. John's. She placed 77th overall.
Seniors Kim Piard and Katrina Schaefer also competed for the Red Storm, finishing in 22:14 and 23:47, respectively.
Next Sunday, Oct. 17, St. John's will host its annual Fall Festival. There will be men's and women's 4K races to help raise money for breast cancer research. The morning races will be held at Cunningham Park in Queens, N.Y. They will be followed by a reception on campus.
