Johnnies Return Home for Conference Contest with Providence

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN3
Following a 1-1 week for the Red Storm, including a win over the Creighton Bluejays, the St. John's women's soccer team returns to action on Thursday, playing host to Providence at Belson Stadium. First kick is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN3 with Jon Yardley on the call.
The Johnnies (5-7-0, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) enter their fourth conference contest after splitting a pair of league games last week. The Red Storm defeated Creighton, 2-1, on Thursday night before a hard fought loss to Marquette, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. Samie Scaffidi scored her second goal of the 2018 campaign in the Red Storm's 2-1 triumph over the Bluejays, helping St. John's secure its first conference win of the season. In Sunday's matchup, the Red Storm played even for 77 minutes with the Golden Eagles before Marquette recorded the game winning goal in the 78th minute. Â

As of recently, Scaffidi has displayed a stellar effort on the pitch for the Red Storm. The senior currently paces the squad over conference play, registering a team-high two points and 10 shots with four of those being on goal.

 After making 11 saves in two games last week for the Red Storm, Meredith Reinhardt earned herself a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, her first selection of the 2018 season. Over two matches the Scottsdale, Ariz., native faced 35 shots, posting a .846 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average, making a total 41 grabs on the season to rank inside the top-10 in the conference.

Budapest, Hungary, native Zsani Kajan has been vital to the Red Storm's offensive efforts in the early going this season, as she continues to pace the team with seven goals and 16 points on the 2018 campaign. The redshirt sophomore ranks in the top three for both statistical categories in the conference.

The Friars (7-4-1, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) are led offensively by sophomore Hannah McNulty who ranks second in the league for total goals on the 2018 campaign with eight and paces the conference in game winners with four. Â The Warwick, R.I., native has also tallied two assists to lead the team with a combined 18 points. Shelby Hogan, who hails from Franklin, Mass., has started all 12 matches between the goal posts for the Friars. The sophomore has compiled an overall goals against average of 0.81 and stopped 86 percent of the shots on goal that she has faced, ranking inside the top-three in the BIG EAST for both statistical categories.

The two programs enter play on Thursday for the 33rd all-time meeting with the series knotted at 15-15-2. Despite falling to the Friars last year, 2-1, the Red Storm has won three of the team's last four contests.
