Red Storm Concludes Play at Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational

Jack Simon paced the Johnnies in the three-round tournament
The St. John's men's golf team concluded play at the Pete Dye Golf Club on Tuesday, as the Red Storm placed 14th at the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational.
Leading the Johnnies in the two-day event was freshman Jack Simon. The Sparta, N.J., native shot a 79 and 80 in the last two rounds. Over the rookie's final 36 holes, he registered a total 19 pars, as well as a trio of birdies to turn in a combined 235 and finish inside the top-50.
Classmate Tyler Gerbavsits recorded a 76 and 85 on the day, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five eighth hole in the second round.
Junior Gerald Mackedon and senior Austin Briggs each turned in three-round totals of 242, while Andrew Baek rounded out scoring for the Red Storm shooting a 250 over 54 holes.
West Virginia maintained its spot at the top of the leaderboard, carding a combined two-over 866 to sit 11-strokes ahead of second place Davidson College. St. John's finished with a team score of 954.
Max Sear of West Virginia earned medalist honors, carding a 72 and 69 over the final 54 holes for a combined score of six-under 210.
The Johnnies will return to action on Oct. 19, as they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., for the two-day Patriot Intercollegiate.
