St. John’s Faces Hartford in First Road Game of the Season

Saturday’s contest against Hartford marks the first of back-to-back road games for the Red Storm.
QUEENS, N.Y. – After losing a tough home opener last weekend to then-No. 12/12 Rutgers, the St. John's lacrosse team will hit the road for the first time this season to battle the Hartford Hawks on Saturday at 1 p.m.
After beating the Hawks, 14-12, in Queens last season, the Red Storm will travel to battle the Hawks at Alumni Stadium. Hartford has never bested St. John's in five outings all-time between the two teams, including a pair of contests in Hartford.
Saturday's game will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV. AmericaEast.TV is a free streaming service and does not require a fee in order to watch.
Leading by three over its nationally ranked foe with 10 minutes to play in the contest, St. John's saw Rutgers score the final seven goals of the game en route to a 19-15 victory at DaSilva Memorial Field.
Mike Madsen led the way offensively for St. John's (0-1), as the junior midfielder ended the day with five points on four goals and an assist. The Locust Valley, N.Y., native paced the Johnnies with eight shots, seven of which were on goal.
Two other members of the Red Storm recorded multi-goal games, as Declan Swartwood tallied his fifth career hat trick and Chris Buscemi found the back of the net twice.
In total, 10 Johnnies tallied points in the contest, including a third quarter goal from Jonathan Huber that marked the first of the redshirt freshman's career.
Brody Agres, a freshman from Farmingdale, N.Y., minded the net for the Red Storm and recorded eight saves in 60 minutes of action.
Joseph Fitzpatrick and sophomore Colin Bosak split face-off duties, as St. John's topped Rutgers at the X, 22-16. Fitzpatrick, a sophomore, won 21 of his 37 face-off attempts.
Saturday's showdown will be the first game of the year for the Hawks. Hartford tied for sixth with nine points in the 2019 America East Men's Lacrosse Preseason Poll.
The Hartford men's lacrosse team features 19 newcomers alongside 18 returners. The rookies will look to make an immediate impact as Hartford begins its quest for the program's third America East Championship.
Last season, Hartford finished with a 3-10 record, including an 0-5 mark in conference play.
