St. John's Falls to DePaul, 70-62

Curteeona Brelove records her fifth double-double of the season
The St. John's women's basketball team saw its recent win streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon, falling to DePaul, 70-62, at Madison Square Garden.
Curteeona Brelove notched her fifth double-double of the season, turning in 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Johnnies. The Malone, Fla., native has now finished in double figures in five-straight games.
Qadashah Hoppie paced the way for the Red Storm in scoring, netting a team-high 16 points, draining eight of her 10 tries from the charity stripe. The Staten Island native, also tied Tiana England with a team-best five assists.
England joined Hoppie and Brelove in double figures, recording 14 points on the day, draining six of her 11 attempts from the floor.
Despite falling to the Blue Demons, St. John's (13-13, 6-9) finished the game with a 47.2 (25-of-53) percent shooting from the field, while holding DePaul (19-7, 10-4) to just 38.3 (23-of-60) percent from the floor. The Johnnies also capped off the contest with an 18-5 advantage in fast break points.
Brelove got the scoring started for both teams before DePaul rattled off a 13-0 run to take an 11-point advantage, 13-2, with under three minutes left on the clock.
Hoppie snapped the Johnnies' scoring drought with a drive to the basket. This ignited a 9-2 streak for the Red Storm to pull the game within single digits, 16-11, after 10 minutes of action.
Entering the second quarter, both programs netted early buckets before going scoreless over the next 2:18. Brelove snapped the two team's scoreless streak, to make it a one possession game, 18-15, in favor of DePaul.
The Johnnies and Blue Demons traded blows over the remainder of the half, with DePaul leading, 26-22, at the intermission.
Coming out of the locker room, the Red Storm rattled off an early 10-4 run to take its first lead of the game, 32-30, off of an Alisha Kebbe triple. The buckets continued to pour in for the Johnnies as they unleashed eight unanswered points to extend its lead to 36-32 midway through the third quarter.
With four minutes remaining in the third stanza and the Johnnies holding a six-point lead, 38-32, the Blue Demons outscored the Red Storm, 17-8, down the stretch.
Leading 49-46 entering the final frame, DePaul put up the opening points to extend its lead, 51-46. The Johnnies responded with six unanswered shots to take over the lead, 52-51, with 6:07 on the clock. The Blue Demons then drained a quick triple to jump ahead, 54-52. St. John's could get no closer than two the rest of the way.
The Johnnies will make their final road trip of the regular season, traveling to Villanova for a showdown with the Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., before wrapping up the two-game road swing at Georgetown on Sunday, Feb. 24. Tip-off with the Hoyas is slated for 2 p.m.
