Six different Johnnies lined up at the X for faceoffs against the Saints. Colin Bosak, Roediger, and Paul Tornatore each won four faceoffs, combining for 12 of the team's 13 faceoff wins.
Tuesday's matchup with St. John's will mark the seventh game of the season for the Pride (2-4), and the fifth at James M. Shuart Stadium. Hofstra, which has wins over Lehigh and Utah and losses to nationally-ranked Villanova, Georgetown and Ohio State as well as Stony Brook, is coming off a 14-8 loss to ninth-ranked Ohio State at home last Saturday.
The Pride is led in scoring by junior Ryan Tierney with 15 goals and two assists while Whit Stopak now has eight goals and no assists. Sophomore Riley Forte has three goals and three assists while freshman Matt Elder has tallied two goals and four assists. Last year, the Pride defense ranked second in the nation on their way to a second consecutive trip to the CAA Championship semifinals. Last season, the Pride finished with an overall record of 6-8.
Hofstra and St. John's will be meeting for the 21st time on Tuesday. The Pride hold 15-5 series lead over the Johnnies. The two teams have met each year over the past nine seasons. The Red Storm have only won three games in that stretch.
Last year's highlight win of the season for the Johnnies came against Hofstra as Colin Duffy scored the game-winning goal with 3.7 seconds remaining to break an 8-8 deadlock over No. 19/18 Pride at DaSilva Memorial Field (March 24). It was the Red Storm's first win over a ranked opponent in almost five years.
