St. John’s Ventures to Washington, D.C. to Battle Georgetown on Friday

The Red Storm will look to win its fourth-straight match and improve to 2-0 in conference play
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will play its only match of the weekend on Friday morning, as the Johnnies travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown at 11:45 a.m.
The Red Storm (7-3) is coming off a season-high three-match winning streak, defeating NJIT on Friday, 4-2, and Harvard, 4-3, Sunday evening.
Coach Lauren Leo's squad received its second weekly award of the year as Delia Arranz was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday following a combined 3-1 record in singles and doubles play to help lead her team to a pair of victories.
The Spaniard tied Sunday's match at three points apiece by pulling off an epic comeback in her No. 5 match over Irene Lu, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
The Johnnies dropped their first doubles point of the season on Sunday against Harvard. After Jessica Livianu and Najah Dawson won the No. 1 doubles match, 6-2, the Crimson captured the two remaining matches to claim the early point.
The match against the Crimson came down to the No. 3 contest between Olaya Inclan Solis and Chelsea Williams to decide a winner. Both players traded sets, forcing a decisive third-set. The senior proved to be the hero again, clinching the match for her team for the third time this season in three-sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
The Red Storm and the Hoyas (2-10) last met in the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals. The Johnnies swept the doubles round and won four of its six singles matches to clinch a 4-2 victory.
Georgetown is led by senior Risa Nakagawa and sophomore Sofie Moenster. The two Hoyas are the only players on the team to secure wins in singles play in their last three matches.
After Friday's contest with Georgetown, the Johnnies will host Butler in another BIG EAST showcase at the National Tennis Center on Thursday, March 21 at noon.
