St. John’s Tops Marist, 7-3, on Tuesday

Johnnies claim fifth-straight victory
The St. John's baseball team won its fifth-straight decision on Tuesday afternoon, topping Marist, 7-3, at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
The Red Foxes outhit the Johnnies, 8-6, but a trio of Marist errors helped push across four unearned runs for the Red Storm (8-9).
Ryan Hogan reached base in three of his four plate appearances, going 2-for-3, recording a single and a double for St. John's.
Mitchell Henshaw, Colin Wetterau, Ryan Markey and Rudy Aguilar all added base knocks for the Johnnies.
Marist (6-12) struck first in the top of the second, stringing together a triple and an RBI groundout to take an early 1-0 lead.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, the Red Storm broke through with two outs, as Mike Antico walked in a run to knot the game at one for the Johnnies.
Following a scoreless third for both programs, Marist plated its second run in the visitor half of the fourth to regain the lead, 2-1.
The Johnnies responded with a four-run bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on two wild pitches alongside a pair of Marist errors. With two outs and the bases loaded in the home half of the frame, Markey scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at two.
Still in the fourth, Carson Bartels hit a sharp grounder to third that was bobbled and then overthrown by the Red Foxes' fielder to score Aguilar and Antico. The Red Storm plated another run off of a wild pitch to extend its lead, 5-2, entering the top of the fifth.
After a scoreless fifth inning for both sides, Marist cut into the Johnnies' advantage with a double to right center to record their final run of the game, 5-3.
The Johnnies sealed the victory in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Markey and Hogan registered back-to-back hits before both scoring on an error by the shortstop.
The Red Storm will return to Jack Kaiser Stadium this weekend for a three-game series with Hofstra starting Friday at 3 p.m.
