St. John’s Falls to Penn, 5-0

The Red Storm’s loss to the Quakers ends a five-match winning streak
PHILADELPHIA – In its second match within a span of 48 hours, a depleted St. John's women's tennis squad, which only traveled five players, suffered its first sweep of the season to Penn in Philadelphia, 5-0.
In doubles action, Penn gained the first point due to the Red Storm's inability to field three doubles teams. The Quakers clinched the doubles point on the No. 2 court as Iulila Bryzgalova and OJ Singh's defeated Oceane Garibal and Delia Arranz, 6-1.
Penn won singles matches at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 positions to secure a victory over the Johnnies.
St. John's was forced to forfeit the No. 6 match, giving Penn its first singles point of the afternoon.
At the No. 2 spot, freshman Najah Dawson fell to Penn's Marta Kolwalska in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Penn's Ashley Zhu defeated Arranz on the No. 4 court, 6-2, 6-1.
In the No. 5 match, Jenelle Downer lost to OJ Singh in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
Garibal and Jessica Livianu went unfinished in their matches in the No. 1 and No. 3 contests.
St. John's returns to action on next Saturday, March 30, as they travel to the Garden State to battle BIG EAST rival, Seton Hall at 1 p.m.
